Elephant photo --K-3 with M/200mm f 4.0.
Onanger/ass --K-3 with M/400mm f 5.6. (No idea why the "15" appears on animal's backside!

The 400mm is a little long for zoo photos unless you are just looking for eyes and heads, that sort of thing. The 200mm is just about perfect, remembering that the K-3 is giving 1.5X FOV. The 400mm FOV would have been a little better and the 200mm FOV possibly a little worse for zoo photos. Anyway, image quality was good for both of these M lenses, with little post-processing necessary.

Pentax M SMC 200mm f4

It's not a lens I use all the time and as long as I remember that it doesn't focus properly at infinity and I "knock it back by a tad" it usually produces very good results. Especially for the $40 I paid for it. Has all the features that (to me) make this lens series such a favourite. Compact, easy to use and great build quality. I also think they are rather good to look at too.

What exactly do you mean by that? that it hasn't got an infinity stop/it isn't properly regulated?

I'm asking because generally M lenses had infinity stops, my M200/4 actually stops a wee little bit short of infinity (couldn't notice on a 6MP body, but I do on a 16MP one): this might also have something to do with barrel thermal expansion (contraction in my case)... and generally it is desirable to have a little bit of leeway because of this.

Calibrating the infinity stop should not be too difficult on a manual prime, at any rate.

Which I am not about to do. I suspect it's an adapter problem rather than lens. I can rotate the lens to infinity but when I use the focus mag on the A6000 I refocus more accurately (to my eyes anyway).

Oh it's got an infinity stop but if simply rotate to "the end" the image is not 100% sharp (based on focus mag in my camera) so i refocus very slightly. Pretty sure I get that on all my K-Mount lenses which points to it being an adapter tolerance issue.

Thanks. Indeed M50 is lovely. In my stack second only to M*. Might need to buy K1 to get the correct field of view out of it
