Sunset from a hill top

Nice shot Repaap. I think the log drive I mentioned in my last post were a bit wider than the one in your shot and I think already in worse shape a thirty years ago. There probably ain't many left anymore in Finland.

................................................................................

Went to watch the sunset one evening to a hill top which is the best vantage point in the region of my family's summer house. After the last shot it was time to pack the equipment and walk to the car before the rain clouds in the first picture were above. Could easily have lingered 5 more minutes without getting wet

K5 M50/1.7 6 vertical shots panorama to the east:

Thanks, yes, these things are mostly rottening away, I think that I have seen only one in good shape at Repoveden kansallispuisto, but it has been remade.

You got nice series of shots too, well captured, and I really recognice finnish tones and colors and our nature too. Really nice.

Haven't been there since early 90's. I think it was still original at that time. I grow up in Valkeala and as an active scout hiked a lot at Repovesi.

Wonderful pictures, all of them! I am sure they are a good reflection your memories of growing up in that place.

There are more sunsets to post, but I did shoot also other stuff. There are a lot of abandoned small farm houses in Finland as they didn't have any real value when people moved to the cities. Like this one a lot of them are used as summerhouses. The last one of the traditional chimneyless sauna was difficult to take as it's basically black from smoke and there are no windows. Took a lot of post processing to get it as I had in mind. These things burn easily. I have burnt the roof of this one the first time I was heating it. Put too much wood in the fireplace and the flames soared thru the stones.

All shots K5 and M50/1.7:

Thanks, Jorgario. For an old lens, the M 35-70mm is outstanding. It captures color really well.

Though I haven't used it much, my initial observations show that the 120mm performs better, at least wide open or close to it, than either the 135/3.5 or the 100/2.8. I need to give the 100mm some more use before I consider selling it - I've had it for years but due to having the 85/2 it's never gotten much use. The 135mm will certainly be going up for sale.
Have you had time to test M120 against M100? And how does M85 perform compared to these?

I haven't shot much with my M100. Probably because somehow I'm not totally satisfied with results I get with it. Took it out yesterday when I just wanted to play with camera and ones again the results were below what I expected. It's just not as exciting as M50/1.7 and M*300/4. Other problem in my lens lineup is that I have absolutely no use for M200 anymore (don't even carry it with me anymore), as I rather take a bit too tight shot with M*300, than perfect framing on M200.

What I'm wondering is should I sell M200 and M100 to get M120 as a short tele to go below M*300 and add M85 to my collection for portrait use?

Here are the shots from yesterday processed the same way as my shots lately have been. Not bad I think, but not quite as good as I imagined when holding the camera. Can't really say what the problem is. They just look flat to me. K5 M100/2.8:

Your shots above don't look flat to me, though the reason I've never really taken to the M 100/2.8 is that many of my results with it do look flat, especially when compared to those from the M 85/2, which is a lens that produces especially vibrant and 3D-looking photos.

I will get around to comparing the 85, 100 & 120 but I'm not sure when. The only one of the three that I've used extensively is the 85mm - it's a fantastic lens despite being soft with a lot of blue fringing wide open. I would thoroughly recommend the 85mm. The 120mm is certainly sharper than the 100mm wide open but there's a lot more to image quality than sharpness, so I can't say any more on it until I've compared the two.

Thanks for the answer. I take your word on M85 (which supports the reviews of that lens) and if I get it I will sell M100 in exchange, as the focal lengths would be too close for my taste. M120 would sit better between 85 and 300. I like to have decent steps between lenses, as I don't mind to crop for composition.

Anyway it will be nice read the comparison between 100 & 120 when you have time to do it.
