December Single In Challenge with M100/2.8

I'm thru with december challenge: SIC 2017 12 Pentax M100/2.8 | Flickr

What can I say. M100/2.8 is way better lens than I have given it credit lately. I still do believe that M120/2.8 is a notch sharper with otherwise similar qualities, but in most cases M100/2.8 is indeed sharp enough and it's hard to tell the difference without pixel peeping. I can't sell this even if I don't really have use for it. Therefore I will put it to the shelf to wait for K1 and an other challenge month with the FOV it was designed with.

In January I will be shooting M50/1.7 in SIC. I have also started to get different version of focal lengths as I got this stupid idea that it might be interesting to shoot all M primes in SIC first in APSC format and second time in FF. I'm about half way with my collection at the moment and haven't really decided if I include M400 and M20 in my notion of "all". M2000 and M35/1.4 are definately out of it.

M 120mm f/2.8. I tried several programs but was completely unable to get rid of the strong green fringing, which can be seen even in this small version (around the tree just behind the deer.

Doesn't bother me at all. Wouldn't even had noticed, if you had not mentioned it. Lovely shot. M120 is incredible lens. Love the detailed deer and soft bokeh. Did you shoot wide open or stopped down?

M28/2.8 arrived today. Took a family shot with slower big brother, some test shots and put it on shelf to wait for it's turn in challenge.

M50/1.7:

M28/2.8 ISO400 wide open:

M28/2.8 ISO1600 f8:

Sorry for terrible mix of natural and lamp light in last shot. I just couldn't get colors right.

Thought faster the 2.8 is slightly smaller of the 2 M28's I have. Wide open sharpness surpriced me. I don't usually shoot any of my M's wide open as stopped down performance is usually so much better, but with this lens it might be usable. Thought I expect to find best sharpness around 5.6-8. Going price for these has been lower than 3.5 version and I have wondered the reason for it. Now I wonder even more. Very promising. Need to investigate more closely when I have time to spare. Just wanted to share my first thoughts.

I upgraded from a rather terrible Vivitar 28mm f/2.5 to the M 28mm f/2.8 (same version as yours) in 1979 and liked it a lot. It is a nice little lens although in hindsight I must say it has quite a bit of coma in situations such as backlight through foliage.

Many here on forum seem to have such a long history with Pentax. Do you still have it or have sold it at somepoint?

I'm a little ashamed to confess that I left it with an ex-partner as at the time I only used the 28mm f/3.5 Shift. Soon after that, I got the FA 28mm f/2.8 AL which I still consider an incredible performer although its build and haptic qualities are much below the M series lenses. From my 1979-80 M set consisting of 28mm, 50mm f/1.4, 100mm f/2.8 and 200mm f/4, I'm still using the 100mm although rarely.

Stunning sunset today. About all possible colors in the sky at the same time. Panorama with M50/1.7. 7 vertical shots.
