Day of fifties

M50/1.4 in nice condition came for sale near me, so promised to go pick it up tomorrow. And now that I got into buying lenses again I also ordered M50/4 macro...

Well I managed to not buy lenses for 2 months, but here we go again. Luckily not other M primes that I'm missing currently on sale here

Both very good lenses.

Love the M series, especially the M400/5.6 for birds and other distant stuff.

I've owned mine since 1982, and it is used often. With my skill level, it is often misused, but I have fun.

I use her at f/11 whenever possible. At that point the CA and PF are as low as it gets with the lens. I have used it successfully with the AFA 1.7X on it, but you really need light for that combo. (1.7X5.6=f/9.5 wide open). The DOF is hair thin at 680mm also.

M50/1.4

Got it today and it's a beauty! It's almost in mint condition. With close inspection I managed to find one small mark in aperture ring. Previous owner had ordered it from Japan and sold it to gather money for camera update. What a fool

Took some test shots wide open. This is home ground for 1.4 and clear win for it. Will be interesting to see how it compares to 1.7 in stopped down competitions.

Interesting. This could have been taken yesterday or in 70's. I can't place this in time.

Also M50/4 macro has arrived. Strange little lens. Diameter of actual elements is really short and located deep into construction. Nice wide open performance. Still missing M50/2, but here are the other M fifties

Taken with M85/2:

M50/4 wide open:

You're gathering almost exactly the same M lenses as I have in my collection, though I sold my 135/3.5 as well as a few copies of the M 28mm lenses (I don't much like any of them).
