M40 feels like a fun lens. Small, great FOV on APSC and nice rendition.

These look very good. I've never gone for an M 40mm as they don't have a reputation as a sharp lens and are usually over-priced, plus I have the 40mm limited. These shots indicate that it's a lens that could be worth keeping on the shopping list.

How is it for sharpness at wider apertures?

I don't think I have taken any shots wide open so far. I have used it only couple of times. I have planned to shoot SIC with 40 on July, so after that I know a lot more.

There was a thread on the forum about 40 pancakes with some comparison shots. Wide open apparently: Is the 40mm 2.8 Pancake really that bad? - Page 3 - PentaxForums.com
Wide open the corners are weak on both lenses on FF camera and M40 is softer overall than modern 40. Stopped down M probably compare better. As you already have ltd I can't see why you should get M other than simple joy of owning it. But, honestly, between M35/2 and all the M50's, it's the only real reason why I got it and I still consider it 95€ well spent

M 40 is not bad at all. Quite usable for night shots wide open and really good at f 4.5 overall. Nice on DSLR, but very handy on mirrorless where adapter adds some distance from camera body.

If already owning a lens with that focal length and max aperture were reason not to buy, then my lens cupboard would look very different. My wife would also be a lot happier.

Went too early to shoot sunset for Single In Challenge. Spare time and great view to all direction resulted in quite a lot of shots.

M40:

M200:

And as a last a 15 shots Brenizer method shot.

I scan myself with an Epson V550. It does the job but it's not perfect...

Alas, this didn't turn out too well as I had a gap quite close to the subject on the right hand side when stitching so I had to crop most of the out-of-focus area away, leaving an image that barely looks like a Brenizer

Taken with the M 120mm f/2.8 wide open, cross-posted to the Brenizer method thread.
