Went for a stroll today with my M 35-70/2.8-3.5 not expecting to shoot any birds-in-flight. Saw this guy swimming in the stream when he suddenly took off. I had no chance to adjust my setting, so I just press the green button and shot. Didn't think it would come out anywhere near what I captured. I really like the rendering of this little gem of a lens.

M200/4 April Single In Challenge

I'm done for the month. Full album here: SIC 2018 04 Pentax M200/4 | Flickr
It went quite smoothly and even managed to avoid the end of the month demotivation. M200/4 has been a little neglected lens in my line up. I bought it just in case I happen to need a long tele, but picked up M*300 before I had much need for it and later there's been no need for it, so it's been on the shelf.

The best feature of the M200/4 is price. It's has decent IQ, compact build and in the 50€ price group definately worth the money. It's not the sharpest lens, but sharp enough at least for internet use. Best sharpness at f8, but usable already wide open. With it's nice bokeh I found myself using it quite a lot wide open and often liked the results more than stopped down versions of the shot. PF like crazy, if you give a chance for it. Colors and rendition solid M series style.

I had dreaded this month a little in advance. I hadn't found the best features of the lens before and feared a little the quality I would be able to produce with the lens. Once again a month has been a pleasant learning process and I can appreciate M200 higher than before, as I have learned what it can do. 2m minimum focus distance is the strong point of the lens compared to M*300 and with extension tubes you get around 1m. Still I think it will go back on the shelf to wait for the month on FF camera as I don't have serious need for this focal length.

Wide open performance and bokeh:

F5.6:

Landscape at f8:

Brenizer method:

Focus to infinity:

Sports:

Macro:

I have one of these at home...almost have never used it (maybe not at all) as I got it as part of a camera and lens deal on ebay. I may have to dust it off and play around!

I owned an M 200/4 for a while but sold it due to the horrendous purple fringing wide open, even though I otherwise liked it's rendering. I now have the K version and wide open it suffers from far less PF and is sharper, though I haven't used it much beyond testing.

This one's from the M 120mm f/2.8

Hahaha you've been to Piazzale Michelangelo, I see! I've got a similar shot of the synagogue, the day it snowed this year...

Wrong angle... perhaps from the Campanile di Giotto?

OTOH, the bell tower of the Chiesa del Sacro Cuore (top left) really is... hem... "peculiar"!

I took the M 85mm f/2 down to the small "grass" patch at the back of my building yesterday to get some shots against the early evening light against the wild wheat and dandelions growing out there. I think the light would have been better a little later on but I'm happy with these.

At the last minute I looked out my 90º ref-converter for the low level shooting and I was very glad I did. It's not as useful as the tilting screen on my X-M1 for this kind of shot, but it's a lot better than nothing. I think that's only the second time I've used it.

Many thanks. I need to try to get back out there one evening this week before they come along with the mower and do away with it all. At the very least I'd like to try some similar shots with film.
