July Single In Challenge 2020 with K1ii & M200/4

An other lens done with one more to go. M200 ain't most famous Pentax lens out there. Sharpness is not on the same level with M150 or M*300 and there are sharper 200mm lenses available also. But it's cheap and quite compact, so if you are looking for long tele for occasional use it's a valid possibility. My main argument for this lens is wide open rendering. It's softer than stopped down, but increase in bokeh quality is well worth it. I shot wide open most of the month and when I took shots in different apertures, I usually liked wide open best. 200mm gives you nice tele compression and separation. On negative side there is also CA. Purple and green fringing is serious issue and I got few shots so ruined that I couldn't rescue them in PP. Lens seems to work best on quite shots distances. Therefore 2m MFD could be shorter. As typical when shooting long lenses in SIC I did stitches occasionally to gain wider view. At best these yielded quite sweet results.

I had the M 200/4 and sold it as the colour fringing wide open was too much for me. I have very little use for a manual 200mm lens but a few years later I happened upon the K series version for very little money so bought it. As is typical comparing M to K, the K is bigger, heavier and harder to find, but optically it's significantly better than the M and very useable wide open. If you like the focal length and are looking for something with superior optics then I'd recommend a change to the K.

Which version of the 28/2.8 will you be using in August - v1 or v2?

I already have Tak 200/3.5, but there really isn't much need for 200mm when I have M*300.

I believe it's v1.

Nice photo. You captured the pronghorn antelope perfectly with a relatively short throw lens.

Few shots from morning. I hit the shore just before wind picked up, so got some nice mirror surface shots before ripples appeared. This is probably last day of summer here. Autumn strikes tomorrow. M28/2.8 is quite easy to snap landscapes. F11 with focus set to 3m and pretty much everything is in focus and even if you leave sun in the frame it's really not big problem:

That picture sums up, I think, why I was so pleasantly surprised with the M 200. We all know it's not the sharpest lens Pentax ever made, it was one of the few that got its optical design philosophy changed for the A version, to try to "fix" it.
But it makes the subjects look beautiful, and the colors it captures are to die for.
