Paul, your image of the sandal is different, in that there are sharp lines with crisp contrast on the sandal itself. There's also clearly out of focus rendering going on with the kind of busy / kind of bubbly bokeh aspects in the background. The previous photos lack those things.
Right, the sandal shot just happened to be the most convenient to post. This lens *is* truly a winner, in fact, mine is coming out of hibernation tomorrow!
