Jewelltrail - thank you for the reply and the compliment. I've been at this pretty steadily for a year now and maybe some things are beginning to come together.

Richard - quite a story of the modern condition. I hope those housing developments are not the product of the recent global housing madness.

My sister-in-law was married 20+ years ago in an ancient village (7th C.) in southern Hampshire, Titchfield, near the rive Meon. What a delightful two weeks we had living in a wattle-wall building constructed 1000 years before North America was colonized, and worshiping in St. Peter's Church, 680. Knees had touched floors for so long that depressions were eroded into the stone. We just don't have that kind of history here, where 150 years is a long time.

I recall that hr new father-in-law stretched a blue tarpaulin over the entire enclosed garden. Talk about adjusting the white balance to compensate!!

Of course, D-I-Y was a 10 minute drive. I'd wonder what has happened since.

Here are a couple of my shots. I am a total SLR newbie. I got a K100DSuper in December with the kit lens. I just bought a M50mm f1.7 a month ago. It's hard but I'm having a lot of fun, thanks to all of the posters who have shared so much info.

Both were shot wide open, slight cropping for the bee, the indoor one had no flash.

Ppid, awesome shots there - welcome to the club, look forward to seeing more from you!

Eaglerapids,

I'll bet they're really the best of friends... BTW, that looks like the same dog as in your avatar...

Yes, they are the same dog:-).

The dog is Spike, the kitty lives next door:-). I don't know the cat's name but he isn't the least bit afraid of Spike and he knows exactly how long Spike's chain is, lol.

One more from the Four (Hundred)

Beautiful day here in Waterloo. I'm impressed with the sharpness of this lens so far.

Great shots, Tom - but where is the frozen water? There should be a lot of white stuff on that perch. <G>

I've seen that shot before, and it inspires more LBA in me than any limited or DA*

(and I see some K's are sprinkled in there among the M's.)

Monochrome, that is an amazing collection! I can't imagine reaching those heights--very impressive.

Were you able to do that and still keep your wife?
