SMCP-M 400/5.6 Samsung GX20 1/250 at intermediate stop between F11 and f16 ISO 400. This Hobby (Falco subbuteo) allowed a number of shots though it remained about a 100 feet away. As the GX20 overexposes by two stops with M lenses, this was just right for a bird sitting in the shade. Heavily cropped. There was fearful purple fringing in the hard noon light. Removed with Adobe PS7 (very crude; you can see the white outlines on the bird). The white patches on the eyes are the nictitating membranes.

That is indeed where the lens falls down - back lit subjects against bright sky/snow.

Hello hachoo, you would be better off asking this question in another forum, and it's probably better to start your own thread for it. This thread is about the M-series lenses, which - unless I'm very much mistaken - has little in common with installing a screen in a K10D, so it's unlikely you'll get the answer you're looking for here.

Now, about M-lenses. I've recently been using my M 50mm 1.7 on my dSLR for the first time (I got it when I bought my ME a few months ago), and I'm very satisfied with it.

Well, although there may have happened to be some sort of mention of such matters here, the *purpose* of this thread is just to provide a place to post pictures taken with "M" lenses. As a result, only people interested in that topic are likely to be reading the thread, and they come here looking for pictures, not discussions of focus screens. So if you want more people to see and respond to your question, you really should post it somewhere more appropriate - a thread of its own, and probably on the DSLR forum, not the lens forum.

You're right Albert the SMC Pentax M 400/5.6 doesn't fare well in backlit situations. It's not a total loser though. Like yourself I prefer to concentrate on what the lens can do rather than what it can't. The Goldfinches are back and have discovered our feeder. This female dropped in for a snack on this cloudy and overcast day here in Waterloo.

Later in the day a pigeon dropped by.

I shoot my M135/3.5 in low light wide open so often, I sometimes forget it has an aperture ring and can be stopped down. But every once, it sees the light of day, and I remember that the f/5.6-f/11 range is really nice:

K200D, M135/3.5, f/8-ish, 1/250", ISO 200
