WOW, Tom...thanks for posting those! I was looking around for a nice long wildlife lens...those are wonderful shots. Those darned finches are BUGGERS to catch...even when they are sitting still they are moving!! hahaha...our humming birds look sedate in comparison!

Been meaning to take this baby out more, haven't got around to it - but I took
just a couple snapshots this afternoon, and was reminded how sharp it is:

Crop:

Amazing "Mr. Ebert" (snickersnicker...) that shot is amazing!! Love the color and that you could crop that far is really nice. Can't wait until 6/29 when my 35mm lts gets here to try some shots like that...then again your lens would cost a LOT less....hmmmmmm...intersting idea.

Thanks brecklundin.

I appreciate that. I took about 100 shots to get 1 or 2 keepers. Glad I'm not shooting film.

Looking forward to some K7 shots from your end. Hummers would be nice.

hahaha...I bet it did take that many shots...I had a Sigma Bigmos (150-500mm) and had a HECK of a time even with it's HSM on my 40D. But if you can catch finches and/or hummingbirds with a lens then anything after that seems in slow motion.

OT: I am looking forward to the K7 as well...thooooough, I am kinda liking the K20D right now...I might hold off on the K7 for a few months now, even though it is the whole reason I am switching. I think I would enjoy some nice glass with the diffence in cash between the two and then sell the K20D later. The K7 is only gonna drop in price.

Anyway, that 400mm M and the 100mm M look really nice to me...not too spendy and both bring a lot to the table for sure. Plus, it will be fun to shoot full manual again...though last night with my 77ltd I did not fair too well...hehehe...only like 30yrs since I last shot full manual....d'oh!!

Nice shot. We don't have many plants like that in our northern climate - at least not outdoors.

Good idea waiting for the price drop. The K20 came out 6 months after I got the K10 and the the bottom fell out of the value of the K10 immediately. It's lost 75% of its value since I bought it 2 years ago. It's a great camera and I have no intention of upgrading for a while. Still, if you don't HAVE to have the latest and greatest it is probably worth waiting.

As you can see from my signature I have a lot of old K, M and A series glass. I like the challenge of MF. If you have the time and patience the old glass can produce excellent results. I have to admit there are times when I wouldn't mind something a little more current. Something like the FA* 600/4 for instance. Till that unexpected inheritance or lottery win I'll be quite happy with what I've got.

I got such a good price on the K20D it made no sense at all not to pull the trigger on it now then get the K-7 down the road when the early 'adopter tax' is repealed.

I actually had looked at your lens list and I thought if you can't get the shot with that selection, a person should take up another endeavor. But I was also struck by the fact that the total cost for all of them would net only a couple of the high end lenses from Canon. How is that not a wonderful thing?

I do not mind getting back to MF at all. I will always have the option to mount something with AF anyway. It has long bugged me how disposable 35mm lenses had become. Perfectly great glass with nothing digital to mount them on and use. That is one of the attractions I had to the K20D last summer when choosing the DSLR I would start with...though I am happy I made the choice I did with the 40D, I am even more pleased to move over to the K20D and more than likely move to the K-7 as soon as we know more. In the mean time I can take it slowly and build a proper collection of nice perfectly wonderful older primes and zooms.

Getting back to MF after decades of AF is gonna be, well, interesting...time to recall the shortcuts again...hehehe...

Thanks a bunch for the tips and suggestions...and more importantly, the really nice shots!
