Been awhile since I had the chance to take some shots with 150-500. Here's a recent one of a red tailed taking off.

Thanks xanis, someday I'm going to get a hawk, someday. Great shot by the way.

I was out for a morning walk and spotted this Eastern Bluebird. 500mm on the Bigma, ISO was 1000 so I ran them through Denoise 6. I had my monopod with me this time. That darn lens gets heavy.

Thank you. Got to say you don't always get these bluebirds to sit still long. Great series. I just read yesterday that somewhere near you Big Rapids has some ospreys nesting there by Ferris State. I would love to go there sometime to get soe shots of them.

I've seen a few here in town but I never get close enough to them. They get spooked real easy it seems. I may have to take a drive up there. It's about 70 miles from here.

Caught this red-breasted Grosbeak earlier. An uncommon find in my area.

Shots taken with K5IIS 150-500 all handheld. Tight crop on the Dove checking noise & resolution which I'm very pleased with. I am still learning the proper settings for my K3, I'm not sure if the 16MP sensor handles noise at 1600 ISO better than the K3 or not (using LR 5 for noise control) ? Does any have suggestions for a better software or suggestions ?

I use Lightroom too. I have the Topaz Denoise Plug-in. It works well and can recover more than Lightroom alone. I bought mine when Topaz had a big sale. DXO Optics Pro 10 has its Prime Noise Reduction module which works very well too. I have found the best thing is to keep the shadows from clipping and be careful trying to recover too much detail at higher ISOs. On the K3 I have setting where I lock in the aperture, keep the shutter speed up, let the ISO goto 3200 and I keep the exposure at the higher end.

K3 + 50-500 at ISO 2000

ISO 1600

Thanks, I do not use it too often but when I need Denoise it is very handy to have. A hard lesson I have had to learn is to let the highlights in the sky blow out to prevent shadow clipping. Your 150-500 should control purple fringing very well. You can always use Slit Toning to remove the rest.

Hi to everyone!
Long time did not posted here!
while looking for a spot to do astrophotography... we ended at this valley, and did a couple shots today with a Sigma 70-200 (OS)

This is a panorama made with 12 portrait shots handheld, @ 93mm 1/320s f5 (various ISO 800-1600 since it was on Tav mode)

We were a 10 feet of the USA-Canada Border, looking south... On the left, this is Jay Peak Mountain

I am very happy with the IQ of this lens ! Especially with this Overcast day...
