Nice shooting xanis.

Took the day off yesterday to go for a full Pentax Day. Went to some new parks and came upon this House Finch and here little one. I followed them from tree to tree as they were keeping pretty low to the ground. I do not think the little female could fly to high yet. Taken with the K3 and Sigma 50-500 HSM. No K1 for me so I am stuck with shooting ISO1000 on the K3.

ISO1000 F10

What are you doing down there anyway?

Thanks, it really helps to have good lighting and remember not to clip the shadows.

for those using 50-500OS with K3 or K1.
Did the lens mount scratched your body somewhere between pentax logo and the lens mount?

I think it does not happen on K5 series.

This is related to this Sigma announcement:

USE OF PENTAX MOUNT SIGMA INTERCHANGEABLE LENSES WHEN ATTACHED TO THE “PENTAX K-1

Thank you for purchasing and using our products.

We have found that some SIGMA interchangeable lenses for Pentax mount could leave a small scratch on part of the camera body when they are attached to the PENTAX K-1, released by RICOH IMAGING COMPANY, LTD. on April 28th, 2016. In this circumstance, please do not use the following lenses for Pentax mount on the PENTAX K-1.
We are planning to provide a repair service for this issue. We will make a further announcement on our website when specific details, such as the service period, are finalized.
In addition, please also refer to the usage notice related to this announcement below.

Phenomenon
When some SIGMA interchangeable lenses for Pentax mount are attached to the PENTAX K-1, the upper part of the mount can be scratched.
※This phenomenon is due to the interference with the shape of the upper part of the mount on the PENTAX K-1 camera body and it does not occur to any cameras other than PENTAX K-1.

Usage Notice for customers who are using Pentax mount SIGMA lenses on a PENTAX K-1
In some cases, depending on the lenses to be attached on the camera, the angle-of-view cannot be recognized automatically. Please select an angle-of-view that is appropriate for the lenses to be attached from “Crop” in the camera’s menu.

When DG lenses are attached, please select “FF”.

Related to the mount issues. I have tried my 70-200 OS on the K-1 and it fits, but very closely... I think it may have about 1/10 of a millimeter clearance!

These shots were taken today (13 May 2016) with my K-3 and my Sigma 150-500 mm. They were taken using my Manfrotto 190XPROB tripod and a Fotomate Panoramic Head being used as a gimbal. I was looking on eBay for a gimbal head when I saw the pano head I already had being offered as a gimbal head and it works quite well. It is, of course, much more stable than the monopod I had been using. If anyone would like to see it in action, just let me know.
