Sigma Telephoto Zoom Club

I'd like to start a new dedicated Sigma super zoom club.
Actually, there is this a club for "Any Sigma lens", and a couple of other for shorter focales, but nothing reserved for the Sigma telephoto zooms, such as the current 120-400mm, 150-500mm or the 50-500mm aka "BIGMA", and legacy similar versions...

I think there would be a need because many users might be interested in them, and putting all the photos from these lenses in one place can help someone to choose amongst these affordable solutions for longer reach...

BTW, you can also have a look at some other resources in PF for sample photos about these lenses:

Sigma Lenses for Pentax: Current Zoom Lenses - Pentax Lens Review Database

I'd limit this thread to any Sigma zoom that (EDIT) ... includes 100mm and above!

Please also include the base EXIF details such as focal length used, aperture, shutter speed and ISO in your posting!

Let's start by a sample photo from a Sigma 120-400mm F4.5-5.6 DG APO OS HSM @ 250mm
F10, 1/100s (that's where OS is so important!), ISO100

Well, why not. I'm now an owner of the Sigma 150-500mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM APO lens. I'd rented one for a month last year from the great folks at CameraLensRental.com - Your online source for lens rentals and camera rentals and been quite impressed shooting the America's Cup Races in San Francisco Bay. Now that I have my own I'm even more happy with it. Here are a few from last year and this year.

This was when the New Zealand boat almost flipped. I was more than 1 mile from this.

and the two AC72 boats foiling down the bay.

Then a few weeks ago I was in Santa Cruz shooting monarch butterflies and beach stuff.

Good idea! The Sigma 150-500 was maybe the best money I ever spent on a lens.

LOL! no problem, I just edited my initial post, because in my mind, I meant to include 100mm zooms (I should have written "zooms that includes 100mm and above")

I guess one question I have is what is your user experience with the optical stabilization on these lenses. I realize that not all of them have it, my 150-500 does and through testing last year I found that shutting off the camera's SR system and using either setting 1 or 2 on the Sigma lens 'seems' to give the best results but I'm still evaluating this.

Anyone else have something to share on this?

Same for me and I've been doubting the IBIS ever since I got my 70-200 and 150-500...

IBIS is turned off most of the time for me, I just get sharper images without it.

And just for the record, I DON'T use them both at the same time.

AFAIK you can't use them both at the same time. I forget what happens but it doesn't work - right. You have to pick one or the other. I recall a few years ago someone here (that guy in Germany as I recall) did a test of Pentax SR on tele lenses. My memory is that beyond 100mm or so, it's not that effective.

That's good info on the Pentax SR (ie, a 100mm "limit")... and my B&M camera store recommended the Sigma mechanism over the in-body Pentax SR.

I have the 100-300 and 150-500 for my C***n 1D Mk II N. Very fast and accurate AF with HSM and sharp even with the 1.4x TC. I'll have to rent a 150-500 for the K-3 and see what kind of results I can get. Be nice if Sigma would make the new 150-600 Sports with a K mount.

Done and done. Rented the 150-500 from CameraLensRentals with their Thanksgiving special. 10% off and 4 extra days for free. Woohoo!
