What awesome pictures! I'll have to dig up some of my 560 shots. Not as nice as what I'm seeing but I'm learning the lens.
With the 560 in mind. I have an Acratech long lens head and what I find is that the height of the foot (+ 6" acratech plate) it makes it very hard to feel comfortable using it. What I did do is added a Wimberley SK-100 (sidekick) to the acratech (set at 90°) to effectively have a gimbal mount. In doing so I had to add 1 1/2" of spacers to the sidekick to get the lens centered over the tripod vertical center. It does work but what I ended up doing is design a replacement foot for the lens to lower it that 1 1/2" and move the center of the foot to the balance center of the lens with a K-3 mounted to the lens. Whew! That was long winded. I have the prototype ordered and if that works out I'm curious as to how many others see the need for a replacement foot. I have an OLD Takamar 500mm lens and what my new 560 foot does (will do) is bring the lens center down to the height of the 500mm. I have added a picture of my design. Please don't steal it.
Very interesting design there. Though I feel it will be difficult to carry it by holding the tripod foot only, right? Not much space to squeeze the fingers between barrel and foot. it looks like it.
I did think about the same and felt that the design of the 250-600 lens foot is better than the original for 560

I carry mine cradled in my arms like a baby. It weighs about the same, too.

Griffon in flight.

Hi all,
I had the DA 560 and the K3 III for about six months, but still did'nt had many occasions to use them and still have to do much practice to learn the optimal technique. This is probably the best shot I obtained with the 560 lens up to now. I stitched two consecutive frames (otherway the tips of the left or the right wing would be lacking).

I will post some other shots with this combo in the photo critique section.

Best wishes,
Maurizio

Superb photo Maurizio in every aspect! The bird is in the right angle and the details are so true to life. Congrats.

That is excellent, also. Something about you and long lenses...

Thank you for the very kind comment and the congrats redpit! Yes, this angle is probably the most effective... I was lucky that one of this griffons came quite near to me, and with the right angle!

Two excellent shots! I agree concerning the good match between 560 and k3 III, even if I'm still learning the best settings :-)

Fairly new to pentaxforums, and first attempt to upload a picture. It was of one of the few remaining B-29's still flying. Conditions: Full, backlit so I had to blow out the sky. He was right after takeoff so he was fairly slow. ISO: 4000. 1/2000sec. f8. No cropping of the shot and only a few adjustments in Capture One.

This was a B-24, taken from the other side of the airport, the day after I took the B-29. Again, handheld. K-3iii/560mm. ISO 6400, 1/1600, and f8. Range was 400-500 yards and immediately after takeoff. It seems to me that f8 is really the sweet spot for this lens!
