The lens also is really handy in a close up situation too. Only about 7 feet from Trooper.

Steve, You asked how the D FA 150-450 lens performed with a 1.4x teleconverter. I used a Tamron 1.4xteleconverter. Here is the answer for the K1. There is noticeable corner vignetting at 450mm. It does decrease at shorter focal lengths. For APSc format this does not look to be an issue.

Here is an example of what I saw today when I tested it out. First with and then without the teleconverter.

That TC is designed for APS-C, right? Might have better luck with a K-1 by using the F 1.7x, if you can find one. I have the idea that the full-frame sensor can benefit from greater magnification, anyway.

No. That is the Tamron-F 1.4X Pz-AF MC4 full frame teleconverter. At 450mm there is some vignetting. It lessens as the focal length goes down. I was not trying to do a full review. Just answer a question asked a few pages ago how a teleconverter would work on this lens. The images are actually pretty sharp. Better than I thought they would be.

I use my 150-450 sometimes with the Pentax HD 1.4x tele. This combo vignettes heavily on FF but the centre sharpness and AF performance is pretty good, so I do use it sometimes for (casual) shooting of more distant birds (where it's impossible to fill the frame) under good light.

I do wish Pentax would develop a modern FF HD TC. I used to have the 1.7x AF one which was ok, but showing it's age with more modern lenses and not as sharp in the centre as the modern APSC 1.4x.

Anyway, here's a couple of 150-450 shots from me - as usual the birds saw me coming on this walk, and made themselves scarce!

Terrific sense of how to use the light. Double-plus-good.

Thank you - You're too kind!

At the time, I wished I had the 70-200 with me for these shots (especially the sapling) but it's clear the 150-450 is no slouch!
