It had been calling out for quite some time from somewhere around the back yard, so I finally picked up the camera and went looking for it.

After initially adopting your correction, I have now changed the ID again to Varied Honeyeater after seeing the ID made by my friend from the same trip (Image 58988 of Varied Honeyeater by Michael Hamel-Green) and googling for images of varied and finding this the most likely match.

Birds that I see once in a blue moon I was seeing almost everywhere on this trip from Cairns to Daintree!

Missed this bird in my first trip to Cairns and beyond in October 2021. So pleased to catch it once or twice in Aug 2023!

This is the female: not pretty iridescent purple throat patch.

Bit of a strange-looking bird! Was quite large - they can be up to 30c in length and weigh between 190-250 gr.

They were quite some distance away - even for the 150-450mm! Early morning (around 7:30 am) on an overcast morning.

Didn't quite catch the focus. Was in burst mode, but maybe the Zone Select moved the focus off the bird (I suspect I had not turned any kind of Tracking on).
