You used the built-in flash too, in X mode?
What difference would it make if you had used "normal" (i.e.: Av or TAv for instance) mode and pop the flash ?

I am still "on edge" with using the TC with this lens .... seems like you've nailed it right on the button for focus.
There is hardly any visible loss of details here !
