It's getting harder and harder not to like this lens, but I'm doing my best.

This is what other people claim I do to them with the 18-135.

Thnx! Never been there but I`ve heared good stories about him.
However, still debating with myself whether to get the DFA 150-450mm or the Sigma 300mm F2.8... 420mm F4 sounds very good and I allready have the sigma 1.4 APO TC.

As for the DFA 150-450: Does anyone know at which focal lenghts the aperture changes? At how much mm`s does it become F5.6?
D-FA 150-450 : full aperture switch from F/4.5 to 5.6 is set between 270 and 290mm recorded values

Merci, Zygonyx. Great shots!
That`s a bit dissapointing, however I do like the typical Pentax colors and contrast. Also the WR and the allmost silent AF are big plusses.

Another recent shot with the HD PENTAX-D FA 150-450mm F4.5-5.6 ED DC AW and the 1.4x HD PENTAX-DA AF Rear Converter AW. Shot on a K-3. Really loving how they work together. Also, I did need to fine tune the AF ... but otherwise has been awesome right out of the box! (ISO 400, f/8, 1/1000)

Original Poster
That last one is a great shot, by jpstanisic, however it does resemble what I am getting with the DA*300/4 + Pentax HD 1.4X TC ... not as detailed as the lens on its own .... something to be expected with the TC?
Thanks for sharing !

Great shot Adrian! The White Cheeked Honeyeater from WA looks a bit different to the east coast variety.

I know the feeling! Just when I was thinking of buying a new computer, too.

I also have the Sigma 300 2.8 I will keep it.
Question...do you also have the sigma 1.4 EX TC? And if yes, how would you compare the 300mm with TC to the DFA in the long end?
I`m trying to decide between the DFA and the 300mm, I already have the sigma 1.4x TC for my 100-300 F4

Hi TenZ

I do have the Sigma 1.4 but I hardly use it was pretty bad from the start with the 300 2.8. I have more success with the Pentax 1.4 and the Sigma. IQ wise to close to call between the 300+HD TC and 150-450. I will go with the 150-450 for WR and silent focus and a zoom is just so much more versatile, especially if you can get the same IQ. Hope it helps.

I find the dfa at the long end better then the *300+tc and less nervous. Bokeh is much smoother.

I`m considering the Sigma 300mm F2.8, not the DA*300. I already have the excellent Sigma 100-300 F4 EX DG so there is no need for the DA* 300.

You guys shot any BIF`s with the DFA150-450? How does it perform in that area?

PS: Do you use the programmable AFbuttons?

That says a lot as far as I'm concerned. I am really impressed with what has been shown with this lens. And unlike just about every other lens release, I do not see anything negative from posters. The worst I have seen is it only as good as the DA*300 + 1.4x RC. Only as good as.
