Thanks! So 4" = 100mm plate. Did you find it balances well in the center of the plate or did you offset?
With the zoom the center of gravity shifts a bit as you zoom. Plus the weight of the camera makes a difference If you attach a K-S1 to the lens the balance point will be different than a K3. Or the new full frame model. The 100mm plate will give you more options. I do use a smaller plate on my 70-200 f2.8 Tamron.

Thanks. I found a 100mm plate but the holes and slot do not line up so I just ordered a 115mm. Hopefully that will line up correctly.

Finally some aviation pics from last Axalp airshow. These are all taken with the DFA 150-450 on my K-5IIs. More pictures can be found here:

There are 3 out of the 24 that are taken with the Bigma 50-500 on my K-5 (see the comments).

I love the location of these images, it is so different seeing airplanes with a background other than air. #2 actually made me feel dizzy. Thanks for posting.

What a fantastic shot of the Pilatus! What was your impression of the 150-450 as a lens for an Airshow? One of the main things I'm keen to hear about is focus performance?

Thank you! I think the DFA 150-450 is great for air shows and the AF is fast, accurate and doesn't hunt. I leave the limiter to the 6-oo to be even faster and with the K-5IIs the results are great concerning AF accuracy. Even in pics with busy backgrounds other than skies (where the AF tracking of the K-5IIs is lacking) once you had locked the plane beforehand it usually had no problem in giving some tack sharp images, though less keepers than under ideal conditions! I believe from what I've seen and read that the K-3 series must be a clear improvement in the AF performance. I'm waiting for the FF AF performance to decide what my next camera will be...

Good to know, thanks! I tried the lens in the showroom in Tokyo on my own K3, but static subjects really didn't challenge the AF. I don't think I experienced hunting once, which sounds similar to what you describe. Even so, the focus limiter would make that much less painful than the DA*300.
