After pondering for months what I want in a long lens, I finally decided to sell my 60-250 and 300 f4 to fund a 150-450mm. Well, so far I am very pleased with my decision.,
These are spme shots from the first day with this lens. Some hand held, some with a monopod. I really like this lens and do not consider it any more difficult to manage than the 50-500mm Sigmas I have owned in the past.

I like the cocky. Done well to get it in light where the white feathers don't blow out to christmas in the highlights. Sharp.
I find the 150 - 450 easier to work with than the 60 250, especially handheld.

Snow geese

1 color and 2 b&w of Canada and Snow Geese in Western WA with my new 150-450.

With this new lens, I wonder if my DA*300 will see future use?

Great shots and thanks for correctly calling them Canada Geese. One of those little things that really doesn't matter in the whole scheme of life but man if it doesn't irk me when people call them Canadian Geese.

Also, to anyone who can't find a use for their DA* 300mm anymore, I'm in the market

I shoot birds, airplanes, motor sports. I've been using this lens since last May.

I haven't found a use for my DA* 300mm f/4 in all that time. (But I did use my DA* 60-250mm f/4 for one airshow with "less challenging", veteran, airplanes, closer up. Perhaps that has a future, although I suspect the D FA 70-200mm f/2.8 will take over there too).

Has anyone done or found a head to head comparison between the da*300 vs the 150-450 @300 under the same conditions? I would love to know the results (I think).

I'll do it the next time I'll shoot birds from a hide, but it may not be before a few months (too cold for me at the moment to wait outside several hours without moving ^^). But on the quick test shots I have done so far, even when looking at 100% it's hard to tell which picture has been taken with which lens, and which is the better one. The IQ is so close that you may see more differences between two pictures taken with one of the lenses than between two pictures taken with each lens. Again, that's based on my first tests, and maybe I'll see more difference in a hide, with a perfect light, a tripod, and a still bird 5 meters away.

What is absolutely sure, is that the IQ with the 150-450 is absolutely fantastic compared to the DA*300 + 1.4TC (well, at least for my copies). I was very disappointed by the TC, and I'm very happy with the D-FA.
