Can I ask, are you using some kind of filter on your lens?
depends on the lens

I don't have one on the 40 XS but other wise I have a clear filter for safety purposes

and I am aware of the " discussions " about the wisdom of doing so

Well I was close ... They are both birds
And to be fair we don't see a lot of either here in the UK, especially just wandering round some random field.

I understand, the last time I tried to take a photo of an Ostrich I failed. It just ran up to me and stuck it's face in my lens.

And I wont tell you about the first time I saw a squirrel.

This is why Australia has kangaroos (so the tourists know what they looking at)

PS: and we have snakes to keep tourism numbers manageable.

on our one visit to Australia our first stop on the cruise was Melbourne

we went out of town on buses to a park to see live kolas and there was an emu walking around at the park's picnic area,

we were told not to feed it and it would not bother us. it did look rather large

we also went out into a field to see some kangaroos.

one of the group asked the guide were there any snakes

he replied that he had never seen any but if anyone did, no doubt it would be venomous

none were seen

The Rangers estimate that there are around 4000 snakes in the park I often visit.

Just got back from a 6km walk and didn't get bitten even once!

In fact in over four years photographing in this park I have only seen half a snake.

Shhh.... we’ll be swamped with tourists! Anyway.... must be the deadly spiders that ate half that snake. I hear the Funnel Webs are quite active at the moment.

A few pics of backyard house sparrows taken with the DFA 150-450 + HD 1.4X TC just for fun. All pics are only processed in CR cropped and resized without any noise reduction or further sharpening. You can see the larger pics on my Flickr.
