B-17 Flying Fortress

Due to a nearby air show I knew that this B-17 Flying Fortress would fly fairly close to my house over a period of about a week. I put my 150-450 lens on my K-1 and adjusted the settings so they would be suitable in case I had an opportunity. My first opportunity was quite poor as the plane was fairly far away and going in the wrong direction. However, yesterday I heard the plane and I ran downstairs, grabbed the camera and headed out on the deck. I was only able to get a single shot before the plane went over the house. Fortunately the auto-focus was very quick and the settings were all appropriate. I can actually count 10 machine guns if I look closely.

I'm still upset that the copy I was sent, was a dud. There are some amazing results in this thread. Looks like a very capable lens indeed.

Mike, This is outstanding. I did not spend much time with it first time through because I assumed it was one of those boring manipulations with two photos combined BUT you did it in one shot! That is real photography. Such a great use of the Pentax equipment. Thanks for posting.
here is my shot sequence so you can see how the moon broke over the ridge. The Photographer's Ephemeris did most of the heavy lifting, lol.

Xposted from the K-1 thread. The D FA does decent close up work, albeit with a little judicious cropping:
