Foiled Again

Scouted a nice location to shoot the Moonrise and Super Blood Moon last night and this shot shows the only time I saw the moon until after the eclipse. Oh well.

Anyone know of a good App for accurate sun & moon rise direction. I have two that are supposed to be good, but both are off by a several degrees. The ones I have are LightTrac &

200mm,100 ISO, 1/10th sec. @ f/8.

The tourist around the monkey pool, and the Orange coat guys with the Penguins... those are my kinds of shots. I'm usually as interested in what's going on around the picture s the picture.

The photographer ephemeris is supposed to be the bee's knees, I've played around with the free desktop version but never used it for shooting so I can't confirm which part of a bee's anatomy it resembles. There is a iOS and Android app (both cost) apart from the free desktop version.

I like to capture these moments too. I couldn't be bothered changing lenses so I had to go a long way back to get the monkeys around the pool looking at the monkeys in the pool with the DFA 150-450.

Eclipse montage with the K3ii at 450 mm
We lucked out with a surprising last minute break in the Pacific Northwest cloud cover that evening. I was not anticipating I'd get a chance to see it, let alone photograph the event.
I rapidly set up the tripod and nervously followed an approaching wave of clouds, getting in one shot just as it became a total eclipse before it disappeared for the remainder of the evening.

Here's a few from my 150-450. I'll say this is one sharp lens.

KP & 150-450 First Shots

Just acquired the KP (with vertical grip) yesterday specifically for use on the 150-450 for wildlife, and naturally couldn't wait to try it out. Shot from our back fence @ 450mm, f/8, 1/500th, ISO 100. Heavily cropped to almost 100%.

That's great detail for such a heavy crop.

Female Common Merganser

Another one with the new KP & 150-450. First shot is not cropped. Second shot is 100% crop from first shot. 450mm, 1/555, f/8, ISO 100.

Lucky to have migratory birds visiting the pond behind our house this time of year.

Great shots all around! I used the lens this week to cover a salvage operation after 291 containers with lots of plastic stuff, cars and car parts tumbled into the sea near our most important nature reserve.

1. The car. It is a Kia.

2. And new containers are on their way.

3. Looking for stuff...

4. Air support from the Coast Guard

5. From the wheelhouse of Coast Guard ship the Guardian.

Rainbow Lorikeet.
K-3 II handheld. See exif for shot details.
These blokes have very fine feathers so shot with AA simulator Type 1, but still some moire, although hard to see on this downsized/resampled version of the shot.

Cheers,
Terry

Cloud Play

Find myself returning to this spot again and again to see how many different lighting situations I can capture. This day saw many puffy clouds about. These three shots were taken 16 minutes apart. I found it interesting how the passing clouds supplemented the existing layers. I just can't stop using the 150-450 for landscape shots.
