You are right Terry. It is a male, but without the spectacular blue plumage yet. Good catch.

Thanks. Quite a few of these blokes around at the moment, as well a those showing the last of their blue suits. I suspect this may be a youngster who hasn't had a blue suit yet. Shot at the Zoo.
Here's another shot from the Zoo. A Black-necked Stork, previously known as the Jabiru.
K-1, DFA 150-450, handheld.
Much easier to get the shot at the Zoo, but trying to get a good exposure of this lass (females have a yellow eye, males a black eye) was quite another thing. I exposed for the brilliant white, which left quite a lot else very dark, and difficult to correct in darktable without the image looking a bit odd.
In the end I resorted to saving out 4 tif copies. One close to correct exposure for the whites, one at-0.5EV, one at +1.0EV and one at +1.5EV, then used enfuse to generate an image from all four.
As a result the usual shot settings are not in the exif of this image.
The original was shot at 150mm, f 4.5, 1/800s, ISO 100.

Cheers,
Terry

The last shot I took with my K-1 and 150-450mm before they fell off the shelf in a bird hide, bounced on the bench and then hit the floor with a sickening THUD!!

One of the legs popped out of the runner on the rear screen but I fixed that thanks to a previous post on here. Apart from that everything seems fine which I don't think I would be saying had it been my D500 and Sigma 500mm f/4 sport.

Three cheers for over-engineering.

Thanks Dieseler! This evening I encountered this titlark. I had to crop the photo a bit. And the light was not the best...

Glossy Ibis, shot at the Zoo.
These blokes really show some colour in the right light.
K-1, DFA 150-450, handheld. See exif for shot details.

Handheld with the K1

this second one is a cross post (sorry, I just wanted to show an 3200 ISO shot for the K1), but from the cemetery in Ennis, MT when it was too windy to fish

Great shot, love the face expression and camouflage on his body to that bark!
