Thanks Archimedes! IF you do swing it, you won't regret it, and you can cancel your gym membership too! See, it pays for itself! Heh.
I got mine used to help take some of the sticker shock off. It has been a joy to use, but seriously, it is quite heavy at over 4lbs. I had previously been using the Tamron 400mm F4.0 manual lens, which was even heavier, so this was a win for me in my case.

Thanks again! Yes, this spot is one of my fave's, but not always productive. For all my shore birding photography, I use a Tide Chart and moon phase to plan my outings. I used to fish a lot... so I know when fishing is good around here, and so do the birds. A fast moving outgoing tide near about an hour before peak low lets me get there at a good time for bird action as they feed in the grass flats and on fish stuck this side of sand bars and channels, better yet near or on a full moon, and better still if it jives with sunrise.

Thanks Charlie! It is like therapy for me, getting out in the fresh air and away from computer screens, so I am highly motivated to keep it up.

You won't be disappointed with this lens at full extension or wide open or even at full extension, wide open

Just to prove the point - this is a 50% crop, SOOC, wide open at full reach, ISO 1600 on a K3

Great shot of a Superb Parrot, Mike! Was this recent? I haven't seen any for years; they seem to like Gungahlin and I'm not often over that way since I live on the south side. I have some photos of them somewhere, but I think that was with the DA55-300 so not the quality of the DFA 150-450.

Well done under difficult circumstances. Interesting - it looks like Australian Robins made it to North America but were given a different name!

Very nice, I didn't realize the K-3 was that good at 1600, it looks very clean. And yes, very crisp wide open at full extension!

This was about 3 weeks ago on one of the blocks that was a works depot for the light rail. The block was cleared and spray seeded which attracted groups of 100+ Superbs to feed. I haven't seen any on that site since but there have been some small group feeding on the median strip of Anthony Rolfe Avenue. Mulligans Flat is a fairly reliable place for them but they are usually high up in the trees or flying over which doesn't make for great photos.

I try not to go any higher than 1600 ISO if I can help it but generally the images at 1600 ISO are pretty clean and don't need much noise reduction.
