On my sixth consecutive morning at my new favorite bird pond I was rewarded with an Osprey plucking a small trout less than twenty meters in front of me. I had to zoom out for the first few shots, and was so exited, I forgot to zoom in again as he/she flew away. Still managed to get a few interesting ones though.
Very nice. I'm waiting for them to return up here in Western Washington. I was told that Osprey can rotate their talons. So when they grab a fish, it gets turned parallel to the body. Makes it aerodynamic so the bird flies better. Joe

This Morning At The Bird Pond

A few from this morning. The Osprey dropped the trout two frames after this shot, and a White Pelican scooped it up seconds later. Missed that opportunity though.

Thanks! I think the sanctuary people have painted the quills in patterns and colours so they can easily recognise individuals when counting them.
You missed a perfect opportunity to spin a tale about the dangerous echnidas of Mulligan's Flat and your bravery in photographing them for Pentax Forum to enjoy.

Ah, no, the Echidnas are placid, cute little guys who evolved quills to defend against the drop-bears. Those are the scary ones!
