Not my experience either: mine is wide open comparable to the DA* 300 (a very little bit softer, but you can't notice that without zooming at 100%), and it is much better than DA* 300 + 1.4 converter (which I thus never use).

Like what others have said, your copy has likely a problem, and probably need at least AF adjustments (but that's hard on a zoom), or a repair.

As previous users said mine also is tack sharp even wide open @450mm. I had the Bigma 50-500 OS HSM - a really great copy I was happy with-, but the DFA 150-450 is clearly better especially wide open, so I sold my Bigma.

On FF, the 150-450mm is very soft at F5.6 and not especially sharp until stopped to F9 or beyond.
100% crop, K-1, 450mm f/6.7 ..... You need to get your lens serviced.

I did exactly the same but don't you miss the close focus ability on the 50-500mm OS ... I do.

If you aren't getting sharp shots until f9 maybe you have a front or back focus problem.
Have you checked your AF fine adjustment?

Cheers,
Terry
Yes. I checked the focus on clear targets at different distances. When the AF had locked on the target it was focussed correctly. I really miss it Mike and I also miss the 50-150mm range that made the Bigma a trully all around lens that could deliver in different conditions and types of photography from landscape and macro to super tele work. After all my most popular photo up to this day was taken with the Bigma on my K-5IIs. A wonderful combo!

If you ask me I would love the new Sigma 60-600 in K-mount, as I enjoy walking around in the nature and being able to shoot anything that gets my attention from a bug to a landscape or a bird without carrying a backpack or having to change lenses. Now I mostly use my 150-450 and sometimes the DA560 but they don't give the versality of the Bigma (they have their advantages of course).

Missing my D-FA 150-450. It's in for repairs, and long out of warranty. Hoping to have it back soon.

That's a super nest - do you go back yearly to find them? Great shots.

Has the repair center given you any indication of when you can expect the lens back?

The Tulip

I went out last morning looking for wild winged and/or furry creatures down on the farm. Instead, had to settle for a tame stemmed one...

Same original image, near 100% crop.
