Four species of macropods

Eastern bettong, normally nocturnal but this one was one and about in broad daylight. A closer look at the photos revealed it was blind in both eyes.

Swamp Wallaby. This one has an ear tag which means it's part of a trial of contraceptives designed to keep the population manageable by non-lethal means

Red-necked wallaby

Garden variety Eastern grey kangaroo

Nice shots! You must have been at Mulligan's Flat.

I'm fortunate to live very close to Mulligan's Flat and spend much of my lockdown exercise time in there.

I wish I could do likewise! I'm getting a bit bored with Callum Brae.

I an getting quite frustrated with my KS2 + DFA 150-450mm. Persistent to and fro focus hunting sometimes fails to focus at all, often missing focus. I have been trying different settings: AFC vs AFS, spot focus vs zone focus. Any ideas?
I used MF for many of the pics of the kingfisher.

I'd be trying to clean out any dust etc from the auto focus module. Mirror up , camera pointing down, rocket blower.
Also, clean contacts on camera and lens.

Cheers,
Terry

Hi Marcus. No expert - still fairly new to the 150-450mm myself, but I definitely get better results for perched birds/birds on the ground with AF/C (or just straight AF) but definitely with Spot focus (except for BIF where I am experimenting with Select (small) as the focus or active area.) I also try not to operate below 1/800 second (esp hand-held). Always with Shake Reduction On, except for very still subjects when I am using a tripod. But even with a monopod, I do better with Shake Reduction on.
Also, you need to make sure what you have set the 150-450mm lens focus setting to - full, distant or close focusing only. Caught myself out with that once or twice after setting it on to the near focus setting and forgetting that, and then wonder why it won't focus on distant objects!!!!

I also use the half-press of the shutter button - never have made any real effort to learn to use the back-button focus!!! One trick too many for this old dog!!!!!!

Thanks for those thoughts K2 to K50, I operate pretty similarly actually. I need to try a clean with my blower as suggested by tduell.

one trick I recently used with my K 3 III and the " big guy " when trying to focus on a Kestrel perched on isolated branches I was using spot focus, back button

the focus kept slipping to the background

luckily lower down the tree was thicker and I got focus on that and moved my target up to the bird
