Thank you! I don't know how to post the EXIF information. Is it easy to do?

All the shots are handheld. The lens is set correctly, as is the camera. There are no camera shops or fellow Pentaxians where I live, so I appreciate your help

I changed to AF.C with Expanded Area AF (S). I also turned on Catch in Focus. Let's see what happens.

Cheers,
Loyd
Well, Loyd.

Lots of good advice there:

Catch in Focus is only for Manual Focusing, as others have stated.
Handheld shooting with the 150-450, unless you are a very big guy, and very good at holding the 150-450 VERY steady, I would (as, again, other posters have advised) use TAv mode, set the speed to 1/1000 or faster (I started at 1/1600 and now mostly use 1/2000). (I am small, short, not strong, and 78 yrs old, so a very fast shutter speed is my friend!!!!)

I personally prefer single spot focus for perched birds, but do use the Select (small) for birds in flight.

It is easy to accidentally move the focus point via the joystick with fingers (or even nose!), so when viewing through the viewfinder, make sure the focus point is on the bird, and listen for the focus confirmation beep when you half-press the shutter button, before fully pressing the shutter button down.

I would put off trying the 1.4x converter for hand-held shots until you are getting good hand-held shots with the 150-450mm alone.

If you struggle keeping the 150-450mm steady on the subject hand-held, whenever possible look for a tree, tree stump, fence post, whatever, to lean against, or even to rest the camera, or the hand holding the barrel of the lens, on.

If you scroll through the postings here, you will sometimes see the words "View Picture EXIF" above some of the images. Assuming your chosen image has retained the exif data, to have that show when you post, do not use the attachment button or image buttons to insert the image. Simply choose your image, upload, write your comments if any, and press the submit button: your picture (with EXIF data) will be inserted.

Good luck!!!

Duck on a springtime swim.

This fellow came to see if I had something he could eat. I threw him some crumbs and he swam away happy I hope.

OMG Arne. Your mallard is so crisp and detailed. Is this shot edited in any way?

Thanks K2! The K1 & 150-450 make you almost feel like you are cheating. I've got so many keepers from that session, I've had to cull them down to just a few to post. I need to have more confidence and shoot less I guess next time. It's hard to pick from so many similar pic's for the one's that have some attribute you like best.

I remember the old days, looking at a light table full of slides to pick out 3 shots, and sometimes you had a hard time coming up with 3 good enough for publishing an article. As I've prolly said before, THESE ARE the good old days, we just never appreciate it at the time. Heh.

This lens is so adaptable. I kick myself for thinking it was....

A)Too heavy. It's not. Definitely hand-holdable if you're not carrying it for hours on end. In fairness, these were on a monopod with Wimberley gimble.
B) That the DA*300 with 1.4 TC was just as good. No it isn't. This lens focuses faster and h s just a little something extra.
The silhouetted Ibis' is a classic. I have tried to capture Canada Geese in a similar manner, but my results are amateurish to date. The ultimate photo would be to include the sun or the moon in the background. I wonder what settings that would require?

Cheers,
Loyd
