My first time trying to take a photo at night with a spot light. I tried manual focus first, then autofocus afterwards. The manual focus shot was the only decent one out of the grouping.
Barred Owl - Not very far away and just a slight crop from the original photo. No other touch ups done.

Thanks! It was called an owl prowl that a local conservatory held. The guy leading the group was really good with his Eastern Screech owl calls and barred owl calls. No screech owls showed up and at the third location, we got these barred owls. There was more than one and oh, were they vocal. It was a cool experience to hear the owls communicating with us and each other.

I'd never even considered using a spotlight. Thanks for proving it's workable.

I was skeptical to how well it worked. There was another guy there with a long lens, and he took a few good shots but I think he did some post processing work. I will have to double check the settings that I had but I did shoot in AV mode with F7 or around that, with auto iso up to 12k or 25k. I was hoping posting my pic would show the exif file.

For comparison, here is the same owl but from the other guy that was there. I am not sure what camera or lens he was using but I just copied the photo off of Iroquois Observatoins! group on facebook.

A few more I managed to take over the last week. The warblers are some quick little guys and they sure like to hide in the shrubs. These are all straight from the camera with some cropping before downloading off the camera.

[ can't remember the name of the bird, a type of African Eagle ??? ]

[ thanks to forum member @noelcm for the identification ]

this is a Brown Snake-Eagle Circaetus cinereus photographed preening in tree top in the Serengeti in Tanzania in 2019

QuoteQuote:
BODY LENGTH: 71–78 cm (28-30 in)
WINGSPAN: 160–185 cm (63-33.4 in)
WEIGHT: 1,500–2,500 g (52.9-88 oz) . . .

This snake-eating eagle will decapitate its prey - dead snakes - before bringing them to the nest! The Brown Snake-Eagle is the largest of all the snake-eagles.

been going back through photographs taken on our second trip to Tanzania

don't recall id on this bird

possibly a Common Fiscal ( aka Fiscal Shrike ) Lanius collaris

QuoteQuote:
The Common Fiscal (Lanius collaris) is a member of the shrike family. Otherwise also referred to as Fiscal Shrike, it is found through most of Sub-Saharan Africa. It is also sometimes named a Jacky Hanger due to its habit of impaling its prey on acacia thorns to store the food for later consumption. . . .
Common Fiscal Shrikes aka Fiscal Shrikes | Beauty of Birds

can any one help with identification ?

@noelcm confirmed the identification

GPS is in EXIF
