K Club

Welcome to the K Club Virgilr. Yes, these clubs are fun. Gives us a chance to see how lenses such as your K30 (which I covet) perform in digital. I had a chance to buy one of these years ago but passed on it as I already had an M 28 2.8. Duhhh!Looking forward to more of your efforts.

Thanks so much for the welcome!

I just think this is a great lens, and once I get together a decent AF kit, I'll start looking into other K manual glass for special applications: would love an 18mm!

Wow- so cool to have a place to post and discuss these great lenses!

I picked up K 30mm f/2.8 along with an M 28mm f/3.5 for a whole 75.00 this spring- just sold the 28mm for 95.00 on Ebay, so I'm laughing all the way!

I'm learning how to use this lens for focusing. Since I haven't replaced my focus screen with a decent split or anything, and the focus confirm in my K100D super can lie, I'm trying to trust my eyes more than the focus confirmation.

This and my M 50mm f/1.7 are my favorite indoor natural light lenses- love that with the 30mm, you can get really decent sharp shots with a decent "in-focus" area when wide open at 2.8. The 50mm tends to have a really tight aperture slice, so when shooting subjects that I want to keep the OOF area "deeper", I love the 30mm K!

Anyways, here's some shots: various apertures, I know that most of my indoor shots are at 2.8. All are in camera jpeg with a tiny bit of PP in Lightroom- mostly exposure tweaks, a bit of warm-up in the white balance.

Virgil, these are great shots, very well done. That 30mm is superb in your hands.

Thank you so much for the awesome feedback! I'm so trying to get in touch with my own vision of photography, and where I can express myself in this fantastic medium. Having such awesome tools such as this lens makes it so much more interesting, and this kind of response makes me want to go shoot and shoot!

K 300 and the Great Finch Hunt

I've yet to get a great shot of the elusive finch but I,m getting closer. This is the best from today. A bit out of focus but he didn't stay put for long. They are a challenge!!!

No problem Morfic. I'm not that thin skinned. If this one makes you dizzy you should have seen the ones I didn't post. I'll keep trying.

K 200 and the Great Finch Hunt

Tried to get the shot with th K 200 2.5 today. This is the best of the day. Why is there always a branch in the way?

The hunt continues tomorrow.

K 300 f4 and the great Goldfinch Hunt

Nesster,

Got a few more shots of the Goldfinch this morning. This fellow was a little more cooperative than normal. He must have sat still for at least 30 seconds!
I thnk they are getting used to me.

Thanks Jay. I've been trying to get a great shot of one of these guys all summer. Iím still not quite there but I feel Iím getting closer. Capturing these birds has to be one of the more challenging manual focus subjects I have ever attempted. There is no predicting where they will land or when. You seldom have more than a moment to get the shot. Next on my list is the Osprey that has taken up residence nearby. Judging by the piles of feathers Iím finding all around the lake he is wrecking havoc with the local crow population.

This k's Club is a great idea. K serie is my pentax favorite lenses. I've several lenses of this type like 2.8/24, 3.5/28, 3.5/35, 1.4/50, 1.8/55 and 2/55. The k's club give me the idea to take only theses lenses with for my next shots. I'll post some pictures as soon as possible.

K Club

Cyril,

Welcome to the K Club. These series clubs are fun. Jsherman999 started this with the M Club and it expanded from there. It has pumped new life into my picture taking. I hope you enjoy it too. Looking forward to your images.

I like the lens club idea. Helps me decide on lens purchases

Cheers!
