It's very heavy - and front heavy at that. I used to own the DA* 200/2.8 and that handled nicer.

When you get everything right (and that's not easy!) the IQ is very good indeed.

This is quite a heavy crop and the detail is still impressive.

Bokeh's not bad either:

Special K
Nice lenses. I have the K also, but AFAIC A50/1.2 is an honorary K lens

Imagine using it on the diminutive (relatively speaking) SLR film cameras of the day. Put a K1000 on that lens, and watch it tumble forward!
Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever used this 200mm lens on my film units.

The only other issue i have detected with this and other telephoto lenses of the era, is the ease at which chromatic aberration shows itself. If you can avoid those situations (not hard, once you know what those situations are), the lenses become awesome.

Would you mind elaborating on this a bit? What are the typical situations, and how do you avoid them. (Context: Trying to get the most out of my "K" and thinking about picking up a few more.)

Mainly, CA can occur whenever there is high contrast or overly bright conditions. So, I tend to avoid objects shot with a bright sky in the background, for example. I hadn't tried this specifically, but underexposing by a stop or so might also help. Finally, Lightroom's CA correction dropper usually does a pretty good job fixing most scenes, but this lens is one of those usually resulting in unfixable images that I then convert to B/W or lower the saturation a lot to de-emphasize the problem.

Stopped down? I'm actually eagerly awaiting a copy of the 135/2.5 myself...

No wide open, I made it darker in pp.
It's a brilliant lens but I struggle to find situations to use it, wedding receptions are perfect for it to catch people unawares.

Great capture, it captures the atmosphere very nicely. I love this lens as well, also wide open.

Indeed, these are nice images. The fact that its front-heavy is a bit of a negative for me. I'll probably have to make another support plate to support this with my K-50. Thanks for the info!

Great image. Looks like the little one enjoys life a lot, and you captured that beautifully.

First post in this group. I loved this lens as the Super-Multi-Coated Takumar 55mm f/1.8 in M42 mount, but I wanted to use it on a more advanced camera.
Instead of adapting it, I found out the same optical formula existed as the Pentax SMC 55mm f/1.8.Been a happy K-mount shooter ever since!
