I took my M 35/2 out a couple of days ago as until now it's been my #1 manual lens for using as a standard prime on APS-C. It has the advantage of being significantly smaller and lighter but it's not as sharp wide open, though I might do some tests on this if I have time. It's still a great lens with fantastic rendering and the K 28mm hasn't displaced it as my favourite yet, mainly because I haven't had the opportunity to really test it for anything but shallow DOF shots. Can it bring magic to a shot when stopped down for landscapes? Can it preserve the subtlety of early morning or dusk light? That remains to be seen.

Good luck with that very enjoyable test!

K 28/2

Someone has made me an offer on this lens so I need to decide if I'm going to keep it or not.

I guess that would come down to how often you use the Hollywood. I prefer to keep lenses that I use frequently. I have several now that I'll probably pass along.

It would need to be a very good offer if it was made to me. You've made some really nice images with that lens.

Yep, in the time I've had it I've found it to be a really great lens. I need to process the photos I took with it last Friday at the hot air balloon festival to see how it performs for landscapes. The problem is that I bought it after agreeing with the minister of finance that it was to sell on as I got it for a very good price, so I'd need to see how I can wrangle it with her.

Dude. IMO that's one that doesn't leave your hands until it's stipulated in your will.

I understand that too. BTW, if/when you do, give me a heads-up--I'd like to see if I can find some of the magic you might've left in them.

Perhaps indicating that it is continuing to appreciate?

I'm certainly learning to appreciate it. Here are a couple of shots from the balloon festival. For this event the 16-85mm wins on flexibility but the old 28/2 is every bit as good in image quality.

Brilliant, is that Segovia in the background in the first image? The cathedral looks like the one in that place.

Yep, that's Segovia at the back. The balloons take off from a large field at the very edge of the city.

Beautiful, and I love the focus in the second image. You make that lens shine!

Many thanks, yes the 28/2 is excellent for that sort of image, better than any other similar lens I've tried. I was very pleased that the balloon festival photos with it were every bit as good as those with the modern lenses (DA 16-85mm, DA 20-40mm and Sigma 10-20mm).
