That's a great lens (the only K-lens I have), but the sky looks a bit washed out. Is that the orientation of the balloons and the sun, or something else?

It's simply a result of exposing for the shadows as the sun is on the other side of all of those balloons, hence the sides facing me are in the shade. The first time they held the balloon festival, once I'd finished at the site they use to take off, I jumped in the car and drove to a place overlooking the city from the other side to get photos of the balloons over the city with the sun behind me instead of in front. The two times I've attended since then I simply haven't had time.
