SMC Pentax "K" 20mm f/4

[This is a repost of my summary for the "Single in June" challenge.]

This is the sixth month of using one of my K lenses. As I spent many years shooting slides with just a 28mm and a 50mm lens, I thought that using the 20mm on APS would feel familiar in terms of focal length. I guess 15 years of shooting a mixture of formats has hard-wired by brain into seeing 20mm as wiiiiide on APS-C. I ended-up with a few "panoramas by cropping" due to this I rather liked this lens once I got used to it. It does suffer from barrel distortion which wasn't too bad on APS-C but would probably be more noticeable on 35mm. A slight tweak in Lightroom usually helped, as did turning on the "remove chromatic aberration" feature. It does focus quite close which was helpful for late night safeties (no extension tubes this month) and the large depth of field at f/8 helped with quick focusing. The lens is much bigger than my M-series 20mm lens which is quite compact. Here are some of the images from the month.

I particularly like the shadow stairs. Wonderfully abstract yet recognisable.

Thank you.

Due to the railings around this mausoleum, I had to take three shots using the shift lens and then stitch them together. (I could have used a wider lens in this circumstance but I didn't have anything with me wide enough.) BTW, the mausoleum has sloping sides!

I shot this scene several days ago with a 20mm lens. The Fisheye is a lot wider.

We encountered some sheep that allowed me to get fairly close. Or at least the shepherd allowed me.

SMC Pentax "K" 85mm f/1.8 lens

[This is a cross-posting of my Single in July challenge round-up. This is the seventh month of using my K-series primes.]

I've been especially uninspired this month, which is a shame as the weather has been bright and sunny and the K85 is a lovely lens. It suffers a bit from green fringing on occasion, but usually Lightroom deals with that. I've had terrible trouble getting my purples purple but I think that is me not the lens! I've also used the extension tubes quite a bit. For portraits (after all, that is what the lens is designed for), the minimum focal length is fine, but for flower and object safety shots (far too many this month), it is a bit long. Here are the best of a dull bunch.

The flowers are apparently what we call Herbstzeitlosen in German. Wikipedia tells me the unexpectedly interesting English names: “Colchicum autumnale, commonly known as autumn crocus, meadow saffron, or naked ladies…”
