Thanks for the many replies, i asked since i sold a 50/1.4 as SMC-K only because it is a K-mount and predates KA lenses. But google now showed me i was accidently right and the 52mm filter thread 50/1.4 is a K, not an M, so i'm good and even labeled the lens correctly, there is no K vs M distinction on KEH's website, so i was not aware of the K vs M between what KEH labels as M (49mm) and M (52mm), the two clubs gave me a little scare, i would have hated to inadvertently have sold a mislabeled lens.

Now it just needs to arrive well across the big pond.

Thanks again,

Daniel

Hi all,

Frank Ė Good work with that K 135/2,5. It is clearly in good hands.

Is it my imagination or do the K series lenses have a slighter different colour cast to them than the M series? Could it be the earlier version of the SMC coating? Thoughts?

Tom G
Thanks Tom. The K135/2.5 is indeed a very nice lens.

I'm sure there some coating changes when Pentax moved from K to M series, same as from F to FA series. Which one is better? I don't really know. But one thing for sure, most SMC lenses are really good, including current DA lenses

K Club - some thoughts

Hi all,

I couldnít agree more Frank. As I recall Pentax advertised that their SMC coatings delivered 99.7% light transmission back in the early 1980s. One has to wonder what we would do with the other .3% if we ever get it and would anyone really notice or care? If you will forgive a generality the fact is all of the SMC lenses are good be they SMC Takumar, K, A, and the rest through DA*. Some are truly outstanding. This may sound like heresy on a Pentax forum but so are lenses from other major makers be it Canon, Nikon, Olympus or Minolta. Forgive me if a missed a personal favourite. I think what I enjoy most about this forum is the passion so many of you display about photography and what you do with this equipment. I know my gear is good and if I do my job right it will deliver remarkable images. If I donít no lens will make up for poor composition, poor exposure and poor technique as I have proven on so many occasions. Iíve only recently come back to photography after several years. The digital revolution has put the fun back into making images for me. It has also made me realize I made the right choice when I bought that MX back in 1981. This companyís commitment to backward compatibility allows me to use these fine old lenses be they K, M A or whatever some 25-30 years after their introduction. How cool is that? For the moment letís see some more images from those Ks. Anyone have the K 105? Iíve heard really good things about this one.

Cheers

Tom G

Well, it looks like I'm gonna have to go shoot with my 200 f/2.5 some more. Tried to find some good images, and I only had a handful of images that I'd taken with the 200. I rarely shoot long, so I'll have to go out of my way to find some opportunities. should be fun!

Piotr Ė Nice collection of Ks there. You have most of the ones I always wanted. Based on your shots and Franks the K 135/2.5 appears to deserve its reputation. I would like to see more shots from the 500 4.5.
Hi, you can see them here: Ptaki z okolic Czarnowa Photo Gallery by Piotr Sobolewski at pbase.com
90% of birds in these collections are from K500/4.5, more than 50% of them with Pentax AF1.7X

Wow! The bar is being set pretty high here.

Jay - great series of shots. You are making that K 35/3.5 sing. Nice bokeh especially on the grass shot.

I also have the "K" 300 F4 that I bought from KEH in E+ condition and am still getting used to it, has been quite some time since I used a manual lens-but it is a thing of beauty!

Couple more "K" 135 F2.5 shots:

Wanted to catch the stick blur so I slowed down the shutter a bit, but still sharp considering it's 1/40 sec! (love that SR)

Love the concentration in this one

NaClH2O, was that the Japan Day?
Last fall the NY Botanical Gardens had a BIG Chrysanthemum show, with lots of other Japanese culture displays. I missed the Samurai sword dance, but was able to catch these drummers. I was told the sword dance was fantastic but terribly crowded. This was relatively free of big crowds. Lots of fun. They also had a great Bonsai collection, and demonstrations of Japanese flower arranging, origami etc. The festival lasted about 2 weeks or so. It was great fun.
