K Club - K 1000mm

Greg,

Welcome aboard. I am so jealous. You're the first one I've ever encountered with a K 1000 f/8. There can't be many of those around. What a monster that must be! I suspect everything about it is fun except carrying it around. What kind of bird was that in your 1000mm shots?

Cheers,

Tom G

Hi,

There are three birds shown, Hadeda Ibis, Darter, and the brown one is a Hammerkop (Hammerhead). Yes, it's not a lens that one would use while moving around but it's perfect for a session at a hide.

The 70mm and 300mm shots were taken with a Sigma zoom so that I could compare it's effect. I have not examined the pics for colour aberations ect, maybe someone can comment on the quality of the lens.

The pics are the results of my first session with the lens.

I love it.
Regards Greg

Pentax K 1000mm

Greg,

That is an amazing lens you have there and is really a specialist optic. You will be able to capture images with this others (like me) can only dream of. Based on what I see in your first few shots it looks like a winner to me. I suspect to get the best out of a lens like this you would have to shoot on a really clear day. With all the space between you and your subject the image would be degraded by particles in the air. Most of us don’t have to worry about this particular problem. As for colour aberrations etc. there is little doubt low dispersion glass in a more modern lens would be superior to this 30 year old unit but who cares – you’ve got a 1000mm lens! Enjoy it and share some more shots with us. You just showed me three birds I've never heard of. More Greg more...

Cheers,

Tom G.

K 200mm f/2.5

Hi all,

Took the K 200 2.5 to the park today. Nothing special just a few shots as I walked about.

K28/3.5

I know, I already said it, but I just love this lens!
It could be because of my non extensive collection but I love it anyways!

This is a 30 sec exposure at f11.

Some casual shot by K30

Just spend whole day working on the back yard, took a few photos as promised.

1. Tool

2. Result of the yard work

3. Reward myself with the newly acquired A15.

Shoot JPEG and no modification or crop.

I'm already a member of the M club, so now I'd like to join the K club.

I'm not 100% sure this is a K lens, but I think it is. If someone could verify this I'd appreciate it.

I bought this a few days ago at Adorama. It had been priced at $239 for months, then about 3 weeks ago, I noticed they had cut the price to $79. I figured someone would snap it up, but no one did, so I figured what do I have to lose?
It's a Pentax 55mm 1.8.

My neighbor, Farmer Brown came over with his daughter, Becky-Sue, and she brought some farm-fresh eggs to celebrate! Don't worry, we didn't eat the calf; Farmer Brown just wanted to show me how big he's getting.

Enough silliness, here it is:

Here's a shot @ f5.6

And here's one @ f2.8. Much nicer bokeh, don't you think?

This may turn out to be a very nice portrait lens.

Thanks, gokenin.

I'm not close to being an expert regarding Pentax lenses, but this is what I suspected.

Thanks very much, jsherman.

I was looking for a conventional portrait lens (I already have a lensbaby for artsy stuff) and wanted the DA70mm, but I still love the feel and control of a manual lens.

I first noticed this lens at Adorama during the winter, but they wanted $239, which I thought was too much. Then, about a month ago, it suddenly dropped to $79. I thought it would be gone in a few days, but everytime I went to Adorama's site it was still there. So I took it home. I liked this lens as soon as I picked it up.

Nicely damped focusing, and it's small, yet solid.

And on top of all this, it takes 52mm filters! I only have about 20 of them lying around! I also bought a Tiffen Gold diffusion #1 filter, which gives a nice, subtle and warm softening to a scene, but I still like the Tiffen warm soft FX #3 best for portraits.

Sometimes it pays to wait.

I do still want a DA70, though.
