Thanks Nesster, augustmoon, baltochef920. Been practicing how to get the best out of the lens. This was shot using an LX. The setup used to be my dad's.

Pentax K 135 f 3.5

Hi all,

Took the Pentax K 135 f 3.5 out for a spin today. Here’s a few from the garden:

Actually, I wish the garden looked this good. Got to love this old glass.

Cheers,

Tom G

K 300mm Nester. I was a bit rushed with these. I took my wife along and she gets impatient from time to time.

Horsing around with the K 200 2.5

Hi all,

Back to Mennonite land again this morning. They have a great little bakery in a small town called Connestogo. The best bread anywhere. Along the way a few more horses threw themselves in the way of my K 200. The Mennonites use these animals for farm work and to pull their carriages. It’s nice to get out of the city and take a look at a very different way of life. It's only a few moments from my door. I stop short of taking pictures of the Mennonites. They might find it rude. Besides, after watching Witness again last week you never know if Harrison Ford might start wacking you.

Here's my contribution with the K 50mm 1:1.2

I love this lens for close focus and bokeh but I need to work on the DOF.
Mabey a magnifier or a split screen also?

I haven't had it out for portraits much yet but am looking forward to see what I can do with it in that area.

OrenMc,

I think you’re doing pretty well with that lens which I covet a lot. I like this shot. Doesn’t look like you had much trouble with DOF here. As far as focusing with old K.M, A lenses such as this one, I find the Katzeye focusing screen helped me a lot. Looks like we both use the K10. I got the split prism circle with microprism ring and OptiBrite. It is very similar to the standard screen on my old MX film camera but brighter. It is expensive at $200 but I think it is worth it as I have a lot of manual focus lenses I use frequently.

8540tomg,
I was actually going to ask a question about which way to go with that. I haven't really done any research yet.
My question is though, how is the Katzeye with autofocus lenses. This is the only manual lens I have. I do get a bit of practice with my macro though and I have a Super Tak 85 1.9 on its way. ( Being realistic with my LBA, I will probably end up with many more )
Would I be better of getting a magnifier that I could slap on and remove whenever? A bit cheaper also. I know they are quite different.

This is my first SLR so I am only familiar for the most part with it. I have looked through the veiwfinder of a K1000 which I think is the same as the Katzeye?

BTW, thanks for the comment about the photo. And about the 50 1:1.2. I knew I had to get a 50mm so I spent the little extra ( I only paid $250 ) knowing I would always have a good resale if I wasn't happy. I am more than happy though!

Check this link to a Katz Eye thread on this forum.

There are other Katzeye threads in the forum as well. I think most of your questions will be answered here. I have both the the Magnifier M and Refconverter M and to be honest seldom use them. It's just more stuff to carry around. I'm not sure you would save any money buying the referconverter over the Katzeye screen. I leave the Katzeye screen in all the time. I can't speak for others but I have noticed no autofocus metering issues on my K10. Good luck with whatever you choose.

Nice shots, 8540tomg, but I can't resist this:

Q: Why do the two larger animals do all the talking, while the one in the middle is silent?

A: Because he's a little hoarse!
