I keep going back and forth between this lens and its little brother, the 135/2.5--your "hen mallard" in the lens review section is pretty persuasive, but since the rest of my kit is geared toward lightweight Limiteds, I don't know if I have the "infrastructure" to handle a big chunk of lens (much less get it to the top of the hill.
)

Hey CB

I have the SMC Pentax K 135/3.5 and it is a fine lens but I've often thought I should have sprung for the 135/2.5 instead. 135mm is a focal length I just don't seem to use much for some reason. It is a little long for portraits IMO and not long enough for much else. The K 200/2.5 is a bit "hefty" but it balances so well on my K5 or K10 this it doesn't "feel" heavy to me. I'm certain if you can get to the top of the hill walking the added weight of the K 200/2.5 wouldn't be a problem. There is little doubt this is a serious piece of glass. If you have/feel the need for something in the 200mm range and don't mind manual focus with no AE this is your lens if you can find one. The Mallard in my lens review is a testament to the kind of sharpness this lens exhibits.

All this being said I have to admit my DA 70/2.4 Limited is pretty special too but this is the K Club after all.

Here's one from yesterday's exploration of an abandoned homestead.
Good thing you took the picture. Next time you go back, it will be on the ground!

Tom, thanks for elaborating...I would have to really crank down on my little Manfrotto 494 head, though, especially in portrait mode! I'll mull over the 135mm "tweener" issue--I wouldn't be doing any portraits with it, but instead "sniping," say, architectural details or (especially) trying to compress the planes in a landscape. It could be that my DA70 would do the latter well enough that it would make the 135 redundant.

JC, that's an impressive shot!

This is a significant crop. The deer was about 100 yards away, and I was shooting through the trees from the top deck in my backyard. Those are my neighbors' chairs, two doors down. I'm almost positive this is f/4.
Nice shot JC

Welcome to the K 200/2.5 club.

I don't think there are very many of us out there.

You must be a strong group. According to the lens review section, your lens weights 950g....and I thought the K135/2.5 was heavy at just over 500g! (But nothing on the SMC Pentax Reflex 2000mm F13.5, coming in at a reported 8000g).

I'm going to try the K135/2.5 every day this month as part of the Single in challenge. I'll also compare it with my K135/3.5 and report back (sometime/somewhere). If the f2.5 is better than the f3.5 in the mid stop ranges (sharpness/colours) it will be a super-star lens!

Here are two photos from the K135/2.5.

Those are two awesome images--I'm wondering if this thread will lead to a sudden uptick in carpel tunnel injuries!

It's heavy, but I used to have a bunch of Nikon gear, and that stuff was HEAVY. Most of my lenses are fairly light, and what I like even more about them is that they're compact. I wish both my long lenses, particularly the K200, had a tripod collar though.

Both excellent shots! I have that one, too. Love the K135.

I own the K85/.8 but hardly get the chance to use it. I will try to take photos and post here. Recently, I borrowed a mint copy of a K85/2.2 Soft lens from a buddy and man the lens is dreamy . . .

Of course, you knew one of us had to be from there.

At any rate, despite your antipathy, you found a pretty corner of the world--very nice shot.

K85 f1.8 (even if the exif says 55mm as I was using the K55 f1.8 just before and forgot to change the input)
