Ha, I think that one would keep me up nights--I'm just a newbie, but that lens always seems to make me happy when I take it out of the bag...

Nice colors and sharpness:

And if you pair it up with a close-up lens (in this case, a Canon 500D) it makes a pretty good "flower" option as well:

That said, I'm not sure I agree with Baro-nite that the FF guys will start snapping it up, unless it's the portrait shooters looking for that "85mm" sweet spot...it has a pretty big form factor, and fringes a bit like a lot of legacy glass--but when it's on, it's on. Your 30, though, and the K28/2 are pretty certain to get out of my price range, though.

My predictions are pretty consistently wrong, so you're wise to go contrarian. I'm thinking that given the current popularity of fast 85's, with FF we'll see the fast 135's regaining their cachet.

Ha, if I were lucky enough to own a A*135 I think I'd charge people just to look through the K1's OVF. That's a great point, though--I'll be very curious as to which direction, wide or long, the stampede goes in. (FWIW, I think FF is going to sell more high-dollar zooms than anything, though I'd be sorely tempted to buy-in just to see how close the K20/4 gets to some of those classic Canikon lenses.)

Since this is a group that has some passion around K series lenses, I thought I'd mention that I'm downsizing my lens collection and am planning to list most of my K lenses in the forum marketplace in the next few days. I have six K series lenses in all:

  • 35 f3.5
  • 50 f1.4

My first K - 28mm f3.5

I just got my first K lens today, a 28mm f3.5. Hoping to get some more time with it tomorrow in the daylight.

These pic's are barely altered. The saturation/color was left entirely alone on the birdbath and sky shot. The creek/bridge shot has a tiny bit of increased saturation.

I left the contrast alone on the birdbath and creek shot, but I did increase some midtone contrast on the sky shot.

My first reaction to this lens is the color. The sharpness seems quite good too.

All shot with my K-01

Rainy Night taken with Pentax K-x and Pentax-K 30/2.8 by Jason Doss, on Flickr

I'm still getting to know the K30/2.8. This probably isn't a great testament to this lens's legendary sharpness, but I thought it was kinda cool anyway.

Well, those water drops are sharp. Very nice, nearly abstract, and literally as well as thematically layered.

K28 f3.5 with crop

Here's a shot that shows the nice color but with a crop to show the sharpness as well. And really, I didn't nail the focus.

And you know, the bokeh isn't bad at all.

The K28!!

Outstanding, you're certainly getting all the colors out of your copy. As for bokeh, I'm usually in "landscape mode" (i.e., f/11 and sitting at infinity) but PF member "utak" really finds the potential of the lens opened-up.

The K 28 3.5 is getting a lotta love, and deservedly so. Here's one from last spring:

It's really fun now owning this K28/3.5, I recognize its color characteristics when I see others' photos. It's got a look to it, definitely.

K28 3.5

Some pic's from this evening. My real first outing with this newly acquired lens.

All pretty low light, golden hour stuff. Shot with K-01 and with a 52mm rubber hood on the K28. ISO ranges from 200 to 1600. Aperture all over the place. Shutter speeds all over the place too.

K28 3.5

I was just back outside for more fun with this K28 f3.5 on my K-01. Here are some bright, daytime shots of this cool looking railroad spur bridge over a creek nearby. This is clearly a landscape lens. I'm still learning it, but what really jumps out is the color quality and the nice detail and contrast in the shadows and mids. 28mm on a crop sensor is a great walkaround focal length for me as well.

Lots of interesting fall colors, creek green vegetation, and aged, rusty metal here.

All shot at f11

Brad
