I'm still getting to know the K30/2.8. This probably isn't a great testament to this lens's legendary sharpness, but I thought it was kinda cool anyway.
Snap?!

A few autumn shots with the K3 & K55mm f/1.8, probably at f/2.8.

Very nice image, jcdoss.

I love night exposures.

K105/2.8

It's ages since I last contributed anything to the forum, so it's time I did something about it. Here's couple a with the K SMC 105 f/2,8. I really like this lens, although it is quite dreamy wide open, and liable to produce serious fringing on very high contrast edges unless stopped down. (On the first of these shots I had to neutralise a pretty obvious fringe along the top of the upper flower. Now I notice that the lower flower could have done with the same treatment.) Close it down to f.5.6 or more and it's very sharp. The bokeh is nicer than I remember - it has been sitting in my dry cabinet for a couple of years, sadly neglected. My acquisition of a Panny GX7, with an adaptor, live view and focus peaking has re-energised my interest in these old lenses. Now I get easier focus and aperture priority automatic exposure.

Incidentally this is the actual lens that's illustrated in the lens database, the one on the left.

You're in good company, then. The only problem I have with mine is that it makes it hard(er) to rationalize a reason to pick up a K85/1.8.

"Rationalize"? How dare you use that word! You need both lenses.

Ha, there's a great line in Franklin's Autobiography concerning how his very short-lived conversion to veganism whilst on board a ship headed to England ends with him dining very heartily on fish-'n-chips...

So convenient a thing it is to be a reasonable creature, since it enables one to find or make a reason for everything one has a mind to do.

So I should be relieved that I ended up with a K85/1.8 before the K55/1.8 so as to not face the same dilemma?

Union Station Christmas Tree taken with Pentax Super Program and Pentax-K 24/2.8 on HP5+ by Jason Doss, on Flickr

Film shots never look as good, clean, and crisp as digital, but I'm doing my best and having fun with it.

If the end point is display on an LCD screen, and if we're comparing scanned 35mm film to a recent DSLR, then no, film can't match the resolution of digital. The "as good" is entirely subjective, however. Personally, I found that after several years of digital work, my eye had become attuned to the look of digital. Largely this is a matter of PP style, but even for a straight conversion the tonality is very different between film and digital sensors. After using mainly film for a year, my eye has become attuned to the look of film (again). Don't forget you can push highlights way harder with neg film (especially b&w) than digital; with this shot you could have upped the exposure a stop or two and still retained detail through the windows.
