The implication was operator error on my part. I'm new to film, having shot and developed 6-10 rolls over the past 6 months, so I'm definitely at the bottom of the learning curve.

Unfortunately there wasn't much detail to be seen out the window on this day.... it was uniformly gray and miserable on that day.

Your feedback is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

This is one area where film and digital mindsets part company -- with digital you generally don't want to blow highlights, both because digitally clipped highlights usually look terrible, and because you can usually recover shadow detail. Whereas (negative) film just kind of soaks up the extra highlights, but you can only go so far into the shadows to pull out detail. And in my view, the details outside the windows aren't important to this image. The bright glow through the windows is a nice highlight to offset the tree; the interior and especially the lighted tree just needs more brilliance.

Some macro shots with the K 28mm f/3.5 at f/8 with 31mm extension tube. I really need to get myself some macro focusing rails for this kind of stuff as moving the tripod milimetres at at time is a real pain.

The station shot is nicely composed. Unfortunately when shooting any type of film, the scanning part is where it's hard to get the finished image you want. If you get scans done or do them yourself, "TIF" files work best.

You can adjust the lighting/shadows with PP s/w and get something close to what the actual lighting conditions were. Try slide film sometime, it's a 'finished" image from the lab and it's way easier to compare a scanned slide to the original than a negative. I hate PP and scanning, so I mostly shoot slide film and just view them on a light table or project the images. (No computer is required! )

Either way happy film shooting!

Phil.
