Tokina ATX 150-500mm f5.6

(and I bought the Tokina....)
I look forward to your posts of photos taken with the Tokina lens. After my extremely positive experiences with the 35-105, I've pulled out an AF zoom that I bought in the last year also made by Tokina, a 20-35mm (version 1, 72mm filter thread) and have been playing with that this week. Again, I'm very impressed. I paid about $100 for it (excellent condition), and it has exceeded my expectations. I thought designing and manufacturing a zoom lens in this range would be very problematic and that I shouldn't expect much. I've posted a couple of shots in the 20mm Club (www.pentaxforums.com/forums/122-lens-clubs/230693-20-mm-lens-club-30.html) if anyone is interested. Shots taken at 35mm are also very good. Choosing a versatile walkabout lens has become difficult, 35-105 or 20-35?
Just out of curiosity, could I ask what you paid for the lens?

thank you - I paid just under $400 (US) for it... in supposedly "as new or unused" condition...

Interesting points about the Tokinas. I have the so-called Bokina, the Tokina AT-X 90mm f 2.5, and the lens has been so good that it has caused me to consider trying some of the other Tokinas.

That rendering reminds me of my rebadged Tokina 75-260mm so much...

Tokina 20-35mm f3.5-4.5

Because there seems to be some interest in Tokina zooms, here is a photo I took this morning with the 20-35 at 28mm wide-open at f4.5, manually focused. A larger maximum aperture at that end of the range would've improved the picture. "Astrolabe".

Yes, when they eyes go cloudy like that, snakes are getting ready to shed. Is it a black rat snake? They are an extremely beneficial kind of snake to have around.

yes - black rat snake.... I normally see one large example on the farm, and maybe a couple of smaller ones...

this one was only about 4' long, so not the big one...

Tokina RMC 35-105mm f3.5-4.3 lens

The frog (or toad as you say) looks thoughtful . . .

Another close-up done with the 35-105 at f3.5. "Oishi" Somehow, I'm doing a series of bottles taken in the same position with the same backdrop . . .

first shots with the new (to me) Tokina AT-X SD 150-500mm f5.6, with both the K-3 and K-50 attached:

and my favorite so far:

all of these are at the long end (500mm) and I can see where I have some work to do to get better at focusing (minus wind and heat, etc), but so far so good...

and here she is:

Looks like a winner. Are you happy with it? You said you saw favorable and unfavorable reviews when you were trying to decide. What I read was that the lens was "softer" (certainly a relative term) at the long end, but your pics look sharp.
Sensor might need some attention . . . I would guess only the first shot was taken on one of the cameras, the rest on the other.
Back when I was shooting film I had an ATX 100-300mm f4 that seems to get great reviews. I would kick myself for selling it but it had a Nikon mount.

I am happy with it - I need to work on my technique and practice with her, but I think it's everything I had hoped for...

you mentioned my sensor needing attention (first two on the K-3, second two on the K-50) - I pulled the internal filter on the Tokina and cleaned it after shooting with it (it was dusty, etc) and hopefully that will clean up the images a bit more...
