Manual Zoom Club

I've been using my SMC A 35-105mm f3.5 lense regularly since I bought it.... but didn't see a manual zoom lense club.....

and it made me think - why don't we have one?

before I bought my 'stack of primes', I wondered why I would want a manual zoom to begin with.... and now I know: not just because of the amazing glass itself, but because of the amount of control you have and the fact (because it's manual) that I have to really think about the shot - composition, light, focus....

anyway: discuss why we do or do not need a manual zoom lense club....

but here are some shots I've taken with mine:

stack of primes seemed too subjective - any and all manual zoom lenses are welcome in this club...

I forget which zoom I used either a sears 80-200 or a Qii 70-210 at this RC track.....I wanted a challenge and did I get one! I don't quite have the skills to shoot these fasted paced RC cars......there are a butt load of pics in this album......difficult not to take hundreds of pics at an event like this for me.....the link is to the album on flickr

yes not so great....ants are tough.....been playing around with close up filters and learning a decent amount......that set happened to be done with a manual zoom ......have done others but with a 50 & 135 prime and also with the 18-55 kit and a sigma 28-80 (of course neither manual)
I dig the frog! and quite unusual to see a bird in hand!

thank you, Aaron...

the bird was a fledgling sparrow that burst from a nesting box in our orchard - my wife surprised it by checking the box and the little guy jumped out...

she didn't know if he was ready to be on his own, so she carefully tucked him back into the box...

Steve - how do you find the 70-210? I know it's a big lump of metal and glass, but how do you like shooting with it?

It's an easy lens to shoot with as it's not big and heavy compared to other similar zooms. The lens doesn't extend when zooming or focusing. The only strange thing is that the zoom is pulled back to zoom in and out to zoom out. If you can find a good copy it's a bargain too.
