Thanks for all this, originally, I didn't think I would go for this lens, when, I finally, hopefully, get a Pentax FF, AS I already have so many FF lenses, but, now, very much thinking this lens will be a prerequisite with the new camera.

Honestly on my iPad I can't tell the difference between this lens and the DA*16-50. Not sure if that's good or bad

This is a variant of an already existing lens, Ogl ... must be plenty of Canikon examples around. :-)

Sorry. My internet connection is pretty slow and it takes a really long time to upload full size photos. I can see what I can do though.

I guess I would say that there isn't a big difference. The 24-70 is probably a little sharper at f2.8 than the 16-50 in the overlapping range. I don't use f2.8 a whole lot, except in low light situations, where higher iso tends to smudge detail a little bit, so I don't have a really good feel yet for how good it is wide open. Feels OK, but not bitingly sharp is what I'd say.

Would love to see a lens flare comparison between the 16-50 and the 24-70! The 24-70 range is great for people photography. I could see myself shooting weddings 24-70/FF plus 50-135/k3 outside while shooting 24-70/k3/flash plus fast prime/FF inside.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that the new DA 16-85 and D FA 24-70 are probably not in the same league and obviously both serve different purposes. The 16-85 as a general outdoor walk about vacation lens and the D FA 24-70 more specialized and better for indoor purposes. So in effect, people will not be comparing these for purchase?

I think you are right. The 16-85 isn't a small lens, but the 24-70 is bigger than it and has less range. Basically the 24-70 is the 16-50, but for full frame. The fact that it is usable on APS-C is only an extra plus.

I warrant for wedding photographers, this will be a perfect lens on APS-C,whether or not they choose to get full frame some day.

Love the size of this lens. It is a tank - it is odd to me the way is gets slender at the end. Rain last day so not able to get out and use it but hope to a little tomorrow. will be learning how to use my K3ii as well. The lens feels great with the K3ii and the grip.
