More shots of the Cooper's Hawk, taken with the DFA 24-70 and K-3 + HDTC 1.4x...
these shots were my 1st attempts to capture it before I came back and jumped on its lunch by the road...

These shots were a bit too much overexposed, but I was able to rescue them with Lr6... Still acceptable results nonetheless!
(heavy Crop... about 1:4 ) 70mm x 1.4 = 98mm, f5, 1/640, iso400

For this shot I was from the other side of the road

Then I made a U-Turn, and got closer on the closest side of the road...

DFA 24-70 on APSC vs FF

The IQ of the DFA 24-70 on the K3 looks stellar so far.
  1. Being a “digitally optimized” well-reviewed/proven lens is it well worth to keep on a APSC ? (I know FF offers more but APSC is no slouch for my needs!)
  2. To go one step further, will it be worthwhile to reduce inventory (in my FL range: 28, 31, 43, 55)?
Would love to get your opinions on this.

zeitlos, those look great!

I know the doggie pics are in bright daylight, but it almost gives a person second thoughts about needing a FF... you are getting great results from that lens on the K30, and I can't wait to see what you and others will do with it on the K1.

Still haven't given in to the urge to pre-order one yet, but my resolve is weakening more and more... ugh!

The photos look crisp - nice shots. Looks like the DFA 24-70 is delivering prime-like IQ on your K30.

Good to see more folks getting this lens. I've enjoyed it a lot.

Some more test shots from today. Colors are a little bit cool, rather resembling those of a Sigma lens...

There is a little bit, but basically no purple fringing that I have seen.

Sorry if I'm coming across as a DFA 24-70 sales person. Pentax isn't giving me any kick backs on this lens (although maybe they should). My wife shoots weddings and really wanted this focal length, also we knew we would be getting a K-1 down the road and so we wanted the lens for that as well. It is a really nice lens, but there are other options out there, like the Tamron 28-75 f2.8 which seems to work well on APS-C (probably will have weak borders on full frame, but we'll see).

A couple more shots.

I am still amazed at the amount of details... (you should download the full image to see)
