I'm afraid a few botched CLA's over the past five-and-a-half decades have made the dreams permanent, but at least the dreams are warm and happy.

Jupiter 8, my dream lens.
Just love that first shot.

I'm certain it's been asked before, but: the m39 version? (And what are you shooting it on?)

Yes, it's the LTM version, adapted to an a7r. It's my only rangefinder lens so far, but I'm hoping that will change soon. They're all so cute!

Hi Dembol,

That is a very nice B&W. Your subject pops out and I really like that. How does you 44-4 perform for you? Your observations are appreciated.
I have a 44-6 which is very nice but I have read that the 44-4 is really good.

Cheers,

Gavin

Thank you Bonavista,

In my opinion, version 44M-4 is very sharp and good contrast. I really like my lens, but some tests show that the version 44M-6 is sharper than 44M-4.
However I don't need another Helios.
Unless it is version 40

Best Regards,
Michał

I agree, very nice, Dembol! Bonavista, I wouldn't nitpick between the 44's. They're mostly all cheap and very sharp, as long as you nail the focus. Plus, they're a heck of a lot easier to handle than the 40.

Some more from the 44, the original silver version.

Speaking of Helios lenses, has anyone tried out the Helios-103? (Obviously on a body other than a Pentax.)

Been eyeing one for my Kiev rangefinder, as they're cheap enough, but no idea if I'd use it more than the Jupiter or not.

Excellent !!! Is yours the M39 version with 13 blades ... ? I ask because I have one, plus a black 44 in M42 with 8 blades. Just curious, J

An oldie with the black 44 in M42 & 8 blades ... think that I have put this one up already once ...

Pinholecam is the only one I've seen using one on these forums (here and here). AFAIK, Kiev is the only mount the lens ever came in, so adapting them to anything modern is a real PITA. If you've got the proper camera, go for it! They're only ~$25. I'd love to see what you come up with. They're supposed to be sharper than the Jupiter 8, which I can believe. It looks like it has some swirl, too.

Yes, and I think you've asked me before. I believe all the silver ones were m39-mount with 13 blades. When the switched to M42, the blade count went down.

Thanks! Jax is a lot of fun, but he's hard to catch in focus.

(also from the Helios 44)

And who's the very first person replying to the first of those linked pinholecam posts, asking about the lens? Me, of course.

(And yeah, Kiev/Contax RF is the only mount they came in.)

....pedant's corner, but the silver M39 mounts came in 8 or 13 blades versions. ebay across Europe/Russia has a fine collection of both, the 8 bladed versions roughly half the price of the 13 bladed versions. The reason why I know this is that I'm trying to decide on whether or not to buy a M39 one right now!
