The wheelbarrow shot has a 3d look to it.
Honestly, if it wasn't for the characteristic Helios swirl, I'd have initially guessed that the wheelbarrow was medium format.

Is this an old Helios 40 or the new production?
it's an old version.

- A view from my balcony
- On the way to the railway station.
- A street in Helsinki.
- A monument in Helsinki.

These shots are done using Ilford XP2 Super and MC Helios 44 K-4 mounted on Pentax P-3. Developed and scanned by Ilford Labs. The images were resized to fit the height of my monitor (1440 pixels high).

Got myself a Jupiter 12 for my Kiev. Took a few shots, but still need to go through them. One thing I've noticed is that there's some serious pincushion distortion and vignetting. (Though not really visible in this photo.) Will have to remember not to shoot brick walls with it.

Example of both, mainly visible on the left hand side:

That's strange, my J12 doesn't suffer of these problems.

The "vignetting" on the last pic is in reality my thumb, I still had to learn the Golden Rule of the J12 and Orion: remove your fingers from the front!

Anyway other shot, with my Zenit 12XP, Helios 44-2 and a yellow filter:

This picture was so beautiful that my then landlord required me an enlargement that he framed in his dining room, the young guy at Asda told me they couldn't make it bigger and asked me how many megapixels my camera had!!!

Who made yours and which mount? I'm wondering if there might be a difference between models from different plants.

(The odd thing is that the vignetting is not always consistent. There are some shots where I can see it, and some where I can't. Pretty certain it's not my finger, but who knows. )

Mine is a '62 made in KMZ, L39, but I also have an excellent Orion 28 made by ZOMZ, one of the last ones ('75) in mint conditions, IMO it's either than you have something in front of the lens or a bad one.

Hmm. Mine's one of the Kiev-mount Arsenal ones. Made in 1960, according to the serial.

I'm still not ruling out the camera strap having gotten partially in front of the lens as the cause of the vignetting. (Seems the most likely object to have done so, if that is the cause.)

Arsenal had a good reputation in terms of lenses, even more than KMZ...I have a Granit made in Arsenal, 2006 (one of the last lenses they produced) and it's great on my Nikon F2:

My only complaint is the weight of that thing that added to the weight of the F2AS makes it almost as heavy as an AK rifle.
