Merci Steve ... I need this one, plus a "3" to round out my collection.
Remember, Jean, you promised to find me a nice 44-3 at your magic thrift store.

I have not forgotten ... the "lens fairies" there keep getting my orders all mixed up ... maybe they will get their act together soon!

I am very sad today: My MIR-1V decided to destroy itself.

While screwing the front element back on (It had some minor fogging going on and I was impatient) the focus went past infinity. There is now a piece rattling around inside the lens and the focus is completely wacked. Attempts at getting into the lens appears to have ended as there are two stripped screws from the PO on the focusing ring, so I can't get it off to evaluate.

It was My second favorite lens, and this greatly saddens me.
Ouch ... sorry to hear about that one.

I think that I still have/may have a second one somewhere, if I have not traded it off (cannot remember without a search in the gear closet) ...

PM me if you are interested.

Out of interest regarding the 44M-7: What exactly is the difference between that one and others of the same production period (44k-4 etc)?

And am I still right in assuming that the old m39 44-2s are the swirliest? Might have to find myself one somewhere along with a film camera..

I've made a bit of a mess and have been slacking uploading and taking photos, weirdly enough, though I do usually carry the camera with me.
I wish you could tell the camera to add a lens identification by selecting something more than just the focal length!

Maybe the Soviet built a time bomb into all of its lens.

RIP, but also hope you found another lens to keep it going!!!

The attempt the save the MIR is over. When attempting to get the rear retaining nut off, the back element snapped in half. Hardly any tension was applied. Between this, getting ripped off on Friday by a friend, having yet another Craigslist deal go south (Thanks for letting me stand there for an hour random person. FML) and falling at work (Wet floors in the lunch room) I'm about ready to cry, and not in a manly way.

I also left my Camera gear in my locker...

... If I could find a cheap donor with a totally mangled front element I could save half of the lens. If anyone finds such a thing, let me know

Until then, I'll ask the two who've been willing to offer and see if that works out.

I put the Lens basically back together. It'll sit until I can do something useful with the remains... I've torn apart Zeiss Lenses, Takumars, SMC Pentax, Tamron... This is the first Casualty.

Bad examples, but the weather has been bad and i've been working tons of hours, so i'm kindof limited to what i can shoot near my desk. Helios 44k-4 on a K-5. There's some work in PP, but not a whole lot beyond cropping. Everything shot wide open, just trying to get a feel for this lens.

I feel like what i've shot here does almost nothing for this lens's strengths, but it seems to lend itself fairly well to the warm/dreamy "vintage" look that i tend to lean towards. Compliments my Sears Auto 50mm 1.7 quite well. Just as "film-y" feeling, but but less grain.

This last one was processed as a joke to send to a friend, but he seemed to like it. Maybe he's pulling one over me as payback, but here it is. :P

Well, I got my Camera back and tried out the MIR again, cracked rear element and all.

Not dead yet, but sure as heck not perfect.

Tair-3

Probably one of my Favorite Lenses. I really need to work out a rear baffle for this on the Q, you loose too much contrast from excess light.

My "new" ГЕЛИОС 44-3 58/2 purchased from Belarus.

And here is one of my first shots...it's sharp, reasonably contrasty (pre-pp), but not sure yet about the swirliness....

Here's my first Christmas present to myself. Just a quickie - taken on my "new" Volna 9 50/2.8 macro lens. M42 mounted on my Sony A6000. Handheld.

---------- Post added 12-30-15 at 04:49 PM ----------

My other acquisition over the holiday when I visited the UK was a Helio 44M-2.

Quick question - how stiff is the front aperture setting collar supposed to be ? I'm talking about the one that actually sets the aperture not the stop down ring. I thought mine was jammed solid but it does move. Just don't think I could move the aperture ring without unscrewing it from the mount.

rule number one of zenit camera.

Wind before you change shutter speed.

If you change speed then wind, you instantly push past a stop in the cameras innards and destroy the shutter controls.
